I also played around with VRoid and Unity for the first time today. Definitely an interesting tech.

Awesome! I just bought a 3d printed holder and that power bank. This should be fine, I don't need it to charge while in use. As long as it keeps the Quest 2 from draining. Cheers!

Had a blast with my yearly trip to Skyrim to check out the latest mods (finally being able to two hand weapons is sick) so I figured it was Fallout 4’s turn now that they have working IK.

Holy poo poo I forgot how badly optimized and crash prone this game was. I have Skyrim modded the gently caress out with heavy texture mods and an ENB and can still easily hit a stable 90 fps. Fallout 4 I can barely hit 60 with a handful of VR friendly texture packs and a weather mod.

You can’t even say gently caress it and reproject 45 up to 90 because the temporal AA apparently goes crazy at low framerates and you get horrible ghosting everywhere.

The IK mod and virtual holsters ARE amazing though.

Apologies if this isn't the case for you, but when I first started After The Fall I assumed that I would need a hand to be empty before I could use it to reload. Not the case! The gun you're holding will just temporarily vanish while you're using that hand do anything like reload your other hand's gun, grip your rifle with both hands, pull open cabinets, or hold boosters and bombs. The gun will reappear once you let go of whatever else you're holding onto.

But perhaps you simply meant that you want to be able to continue firing one gun while reloading the other. From lurking the Discord it sounds like most people playing on higher difficulties use quick reload, choosing gameplay advantage over immersion.

Good point! I did notice it’s impossible to drop weapons, but I’d be so focused on the ‘empty mag > grab magazine > load > think about whether I need to rack the slide or not’ action that I ended up with like 3x lower kill count than the nearest person.

I don’t mean to frame the above scenario as bad fwiw, I love this poo poo and expect every vr gun game to have this level of detail! But that totally changes when there’s a leaderboard or co-op k/d ratio involved.

Yeah I haven't played with pubbies yet, I'd probably feel silly if I was the only one manually reloading. You can drop guns by holding the B button, by the way. And here's another tip you might not actually need, any ammo you drop on the ground will soon teleport back into your inventory. After I learned that I got in the habit of ejecting the mag before the gun goes empty so that I don't have to pull the slide back. You also don't need your off-hand to cock an uzi, hitting the reload button with the uzi's hand will do that.

Take and Hold is the main thing that brought me to the game. I found the Zombie scene fun, but it gets tedious.

Modded Take and Hold gets insane with things like Tarkov where it's loot based or Rainbow Six Siege where you can change classes.

He really needs to spend a patch cycle or two just making some actual tutorials.

I remember starting out and sucking with revolvers because I was loading them one bullet at a time. I watched some T&H runs on a whim later and saw the guy palm multiple rounds, so I looked up how to do that.

Just play Take and Hold

You go to areas and take them... with a gun you are given randomly at the beginning of each round. There are different types of character types so a cowboy one has six shooters and a tactical one has like UMPs and the like. You fight waves of enemy sausages (SOSIGs) try who try to stop you with guns

you win and you get points to spend on gun upgrades (sights lasers grips etc) different ammo types (AP, IAP, hollowpoint, etc), new guns

it's procedurally generated and good fun, it's definitely a game and I wouldn't call it barebones considering the amount of guns you can play with.

the best part of Take and Hold is CHOOSING YOUR OWN GUNS and giving yourself infinite ammo if you want. Infinite ammo and shotguns rules

The way the scoring works with beat saber you need to have swung through an angle of 100° before hitting the block to get full points for the pre-swing portion. This is taken based on how far you've swung up until the moment your saber touches the hitbox of the block. Note that the hitbox for the block is quite a bit larger than the block itself, notably it extends a fair amount in front of the block. A common issue people have with upswings, especially on the bottom row, is hitting the front of the block with the saber still pointed quite a long way downwards so you don't get enough swing angle. You might not be swinging downwards far enough with your sabers or you could have your hands too high relative to the block so you aren't getting much of a swing before you hit the block.

For newer players it's super common to not use much wrist and not actually swing anywhere near as much as you need. Here's a video of one of my recent plays, there's a side-on camera view in the bottom left where you can see how much I'm swinging. You need to use your wrists a fair bit in order to consistently swing big enough for full points.

No JSR avatars though, I was disappointed. Especially since there are JSRF models already in the world and animated.

I just find it hard to find quality avatars in-game in general, like there are decent ones but they're scattered all over the place and for the most part the avatars are like if you only had access to some of the worst avatars from Tower Unite. I've been to the Avatar Halls, and most of the stuff didn't really do it for me. The other avatar worlds are full of either generic anime OCs or characters from stuff I don't know. I finally settled on some Persona avatars because at least I know that series a little? And a handful of other weird stuff like a Kermit/Nathan Drake avatar and a F13 Jason avatar. It seems like if you really want a good quality avatar you have to pay a creator $50 for a custom one or make your own.

Doctor_Fruitbat
Jun 2, 2013

That's a consequence of what VRChat is, as it's mostly community driven content which the dev team then partially curates for casual users through the worlds menu; much of it works largely on the same rules as a lot of indie art communities where cheap meme-y stuff is free, but anything with a bit of passion put into it takes enough effort that either the entire avatar is paid, or there'll be a free public version with features locked off behind a Gumroad purchase, that kind of thing.

Sometimes you'll find really cool avatars in their entirety, but there's no universal repository of avatars because people are free to upload basically whatever content they want as long it's kept private, and as you'd imagine it isn't always family friendly, so they come down hard with the banhammer on people taking private content public if it breaks the rules.

All days are nights to see till I see thee; and nights bright days when dreams do show me thee.
in H3VR, Rottenweiners is fun but maybe not a great place to start. Do the sampler platter to learn basic functions and Take and Hold is the main game mode (start with the corridor, the outside map is a lot harder and a lot more walking).

Take and Hold basically is a shooter where you play level by level and get points you can spend on a better loadout. You "take" points that has health and points, and need to "hold" challenge points where you defend against waves of enemies and have to shoot out targets that pop up to beat the level and move to the next phase. The corridor map is quite well built and you have a map on your left hand you can use to get you to each waypoint.

Rottenweiners is a lot of fun and a unique experience in VR as a gun-based Dungeon crawler, but you start with lovely guns because of course you do, so for starting the game at first it's a little overwhelming.

M.E.A.T.S is a decent challenge-based target shooter, and not a bad place to learn how to use different guns.

Winter Wasteland is another game mode that is the "Start with a crappy loadout and explore to get better guns" with a pretty funny "Santa turns into a alt-right paranoid prepper" storyline.

Under the Meatmas Cappocoloseum there's a gamemode called "King of the Grill" which is a wave-based shooter with a kinda cool (and not explained) grill-based point/powerup system. I go back to this one every once in a while since its a good 20-minute game mode.

The rest are basically shooting ranges, weirdo games (skeeball is a fun 10 minutes), and sandboxes.
