I don't think I've ever seen anything from the real world rendered quite as accurately in a comic strip as that scope.

e: was going to say "why isn't Ed wearing a mask" but remembered what Kelley probably thinks about masks, but if not for coronavirus there's not really any need for the doctor and nurse to be wearing one.

Um, the twilight anesthesia really does knock you out for while. I've had two, and I was never offered a tour, since I was supposed to be out. Although during my second one, I woke up before they had completed their expedition. That was fun.

They'll show you stills, afterwards.

Now I'm imagining that Kelley based this on his own endoscopy experience and because he's such an rear end in a top hat (pardon the pun), the doctor didn't bother to anesthetize him.

Vater und Sohn: It's not easy to be a father (42/1936)

I went with a loose translation of the title: the original is the first half of a famous rhyme by 19th century writer/artist Wilhelm Busch that became an idiom and that literally translates to "it's not hard to become a father, being one certainly is". Much more elegant in German, I assure you: Vater werden ist nicht schwer, Vater sein dagegen sehr.

Wait that really was the end of the "Who robbed the dude ranch" case? A solution that came out of nowhere that would have been impossible for a reader to solve? Even for this comic that's really unsatisfying.

The jacket was visible in the previous day's strip, so by its own standards it's fair game as a clue complete open and shut case.

Yeah, the comb was a legit red herring, and this wasn't as obscure a solution as many others. The vest is prominently featured in almost all the week's strips, and, the upcoming answer is kind of lampshaded in the Wednesday strip:
