The Old Ebonheart and Akamora Mages Guild quests were very, very fun, some of the better quests I've played through in Morrowind. Old Ebonheart Thieves Guild is toppest tier I've messed with so far though.

So it's going to be a ton of work they're putting off till the end? Almalexia at the end, yes. Telvanni city redo concurrent with alma, quest redo probably around the same time. I'm pushing to get the end initially included even if it means it gets scrapped later. All of the firewatch and helnim quests are redone for the next release. We even have someone uber passionate about kemel ze sucking so that will be a blast

Meanwhile, helnim thieves guild feels like it ends with a giant anticlimax where they're constantly talking about a big event coming, describing the details of how it will work, setting up the players in the story, then skips the event itself entirely to end with killing an unrelated sad loser in the back of a shop.

general question: are there any quests people find particularly fun or interesting in base Morrowind that are NOT either the main quest or a faction quest (if it's one of those two I have done it or am going to do it), I'm closing in on finishing the main game and I'd rather not go through literally every list of quests in each settlement or each area on UESP to find the ones that are really worth playing. Also not concerned about gaining power stuff because I have absurd stats in everything and great gear.

Gateway haunting in Sadrith Mora, Balmora Council Club, rhe quest from the Nord guy in the tavern in Vivec, and lots of the sidequests in Tribunal actually - just wander around Mournhold and you'll end up acting in a play, helping a dude out with his underground robot fighting ring etc

the gateway ghost was pretty fun i kind of like quests where you need to hunt down a specific type of npc, like the Imperial Cult oracle ones where it's "go talk to a dunmer scout"

Some of these are repeats but I’ll just mention the ones that stick out to me years later: Every naked nord (3 I think) Maurie and Neloth Hainab stole my pants! Larrius Varo’s little story That lost Argonian slave near the Erabinimsum camp you have to escort all the way to the Argonian mission Murders in Vivec The lost ring in the water Sorkvild the Raven (more of an opportunity or rumor than a true quest I guess) Anhassi’s special friend (top tier)

Oh my hircine, i finally found it. https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/49638 I've been looking like a manic Brenton for frigging mods or a lua script to have NPCs fight each other more. I was even starting to learn lua just so I could have chaotic Oblivion-like random infighting in my openmw. And here is this mod all along. Of course, frenzy spell!! It's not quite perfect, I really want a mod that just makes a small chance of random fighting between NPCs and such - but hey, its a thing. wupwup!

Drone posted:You should play an hour or so of Morrowind single-player first just to try it out yourself, since you know your wife and son better than anyone. Honestly I'd be skeptical of doing it as a family activity though. I'm not opposed to an MMO actually, just because it would be limited to only as a family activity. But for an occasional thing, I wouldn't want a subscription-based MMO, paying 3x subscription for occasional weekend use would be silly, and I'm not sure if there's any good f2p options for us. Lunchmeat Larry posted:Yeah your son will either hate it or become obsessed, no middle ground there. I was a 12 year old with undiagnosed ADHD when I bought it and it became a fixture of my personality, which is probably a terrible thing to have happened If I'm able to figure out the game a bit and can provide some guidance, he might be okay with it. We'll see.

Think I put about 350 hours into it then just abruptly stopped one day. The Morrowind expansion is absolutely worth playing, I actually stopped just at the start of the Sotha Sil DLC but it seems to be the high point. You can also just subscribe for a month or two and do all of that without ever touching the rest of the game, I think there's an option to just start your character in Morrowind (getting off the boat at Seyda Neen, obviously)

You don't need subscription for ESO, it only gives you some crafting conveniences (admittedly useful ones).

I am almost done with my first replay of Morrowind in more than a decade and I did it with no mods (aside from using openMW). I was deeply afraid that something that meant as much to me as Morrowind did would have aged poorly and it would tarnish the memory, but while some of it is crusty and irritating, it was still deeply engaging and fun and exploratory and I had a great time and I felt a sense of inward relief that my old favorite still feels good. Then I got to Tribunal. I remember liking Tribunal a lot, and I cannot imagine how much more patience I must have had in 2003.

Tribunal sucks rear end. The writing is crap, the monsters are a slog. It's like Oblivion at its worst but without even the interesting quests that Oblivion has.

I do wanna try Bloodmoon again next time I play. I skipped out on it on my most recent play a few months ago because I got burned out by Tribunal. OG Morrowind was as awesome as ever but I did not enjoy Tribunal much at all. Bloodmoon is supposed to be the better of the two dlcs though but it's been so long I don't recall how it is

Good news: base ESO is f2p (once you own the game, which regularly goes on sale for dirt cheap and which I assume will happen this weekend since apparently they're doing some big announcement for the new DLC cycle on the 27th) and has more than enough content to work through. Subscribing really only gives you access to a stipend of cash shop money, a mild XP gain boost (iirc?), and a tremendously useful crafting accessory that you can completely ignore if you and your family never want to engage with crafting at all. Still not super sure a ten year old would like it though and honestly it might just be a more fun activity to all plop down on the couch as a family and play Skyrim "together" (with the kid actually manning the controller and the others kinda watching and collaborating on where to go/what to do/etc).

Inexplicable Humblebrag posted:the island where every six yards a hostile nord woman stands equipped with a 1000-gold dagger that somehow weighs 10lbs The weight unit is obviously way less than a pound, like maybe one fifth. Literally nothing would be usable and you'd crawl like a worm under the tonnage of crap even worse than vanilla An actual claymore weighs like 6lb. Divide by 5 and suddenly all the numbers snap into something reasonable, like 100 flowers being a decent amount of ounces and not a loving pound. The only weird thing about divide by 5 is that the most fit badass in the universe can only carry like 100lbs without being immobile, but at the same time lugging mass is not the same as functioning in 100 drat pounds of gear and even if I'm carrying all this weight no prob irl I'm not going to be able to fight while holding it. Mw just does a hard cutoff instead of forcing you to slow walk when carrying weight above your ability to function in combat. If it was more like the later games then it would kinda be really accurate to say that the imperial measure or w/e is roughly 1/5 of a US pound. I 100% would believe this is actually it and they did some research about historical weapon weights. Real legions only carried like 60 or 80lbs of trash and threw most of it to the ground when it was time to fight.

Bloodmoon is just really loving weird. From the ill-fitting story and mythology, to the jarring "realistic" animal enemies, to the variety of odd experimental stuff scattered throughout the sidequests and island (why is there a Beowulf questline) it just doesn't feel like Morrowind at all. It's enjoyable but I'm not sure how it... happened

I really liked the Raven Rock questline when I first played it, tediousness and all. I should probably check out some mods that expand on that, although trying to mod the game has blown up in my face the past two times I've tried to jump back in.
