Pidcock resignation is good. But it won't mean anything in the long run. Now, if EVERY LEFT WING MP AND NEC MEMBER resigned at once that might make the news.

Nthing that 2ndhnd.com recommendation for second hand chairs. We bought from them at work like 5 years ago, back then you could get a HumanScale Freedom high-back chair with headrest for like £150 each if you bought 5 of them (I think they were about £200-230 or so if you just bought one) but now they're asking for like £390.. which is still an absolute bargain, though they're very often out of stock. They are supremely comfortable and adjustable, sorted my back problems right out. Steelcase Leap are the other ones that we were looking at. Again they're £400 or something now but they'll likely last you 20+ years and they have all of the adjustments. Gaming chairs are usually trash. They're mostly not built around actually helping your posture or being comfortable to sit in long term. They're meant to look "cool" for streamers. I'm sure some are actually good but mostly they have stupid features like those wing-shaped shoulder "supports" which actually just make you hunch forward, plus the padding is poo poo and they're not very adjustable. They're very often made from really cheap and lovely materials and mostly you're paying a premium for the looks but getting an inferior product. To get something that's gonna be comfortable to sit in for 16 hours a day (because, goons) you really want the back to be adjustable up and down independently of the seat, adjustable lumbar support (in and out), back tilt and seat tilt independently, seat back and forward, and adjustable armrest height. You don't realise until you get a chair that has all these adjustments just how important they all are, and how much half an inch of movement of any one of these things can make a difference. When you get a new chair like this it might take you a week of making small adjustments to dial it in just right, but when you do, it's so so comfortable. It's one of those things where you only realise how bad your old chair was once you get a good one.

I've sat in one gaming chair and thought it felt like total poo poo. I don't really have room for a full size chair though, so I have a small one from IKEA.

My office has these Zody chairs which are quite adjustable and looks like you can pick one up in the UK for a couple hundred. As people have said they need a bit of fiddling to make them work for you, so when my company moved to hotdesking it just meant that every chair was set up precisely wrong for you. And then they wouldn't even let us rob those chairs when we went remote, the miserable pricks

We had our office chairs for about 10 years. There were half broke ones all over the place, ones where the back was broken and you couldn't lie back on them. Just before covid the decided to get new ones, and 6 different types of chair arrived to the office. Just one chair of each type, and we had to select the best one. The majority vote would be ordered in bulk to replace the old ones. So they gave us some spare old ones to take home. Still using it today for my computer chair, just has a broken arm. Then we voted, and holy poo poo there was one that was pure heaven for fat blokes like myself. Just perfect rear end width, perfect back support, and perfect leaning back on it. So which one won the vote? They ditched the voting and bought the cheapest ones that no one liked. happyhippy fucked around with this message at 20:40 on Jan 26, 2022 |

No one cares and now there's just going to be another right winger in your place. If every left wing Labour person left tomorrow the leadership would be thrilled.

goddamnedtwisto posted:The Markus from Ikea is about as good as you can get without going up into Herman Miller price ranges. However you should carefully interrogate your company about this because *technically* they're supposed to supply you with a chair, desk, and other ergonomic apparatus that abide by the relevant standards, so you might be able to score yourself a nice Aeron or something. I have had an Ikea Markus for about a decade - great chair.

roomtone posted:is the rise of the cost of living something that is happening in most places or is it specifically the UK Yes. Inflation in Canada has just hit a 30-year high at 4.8%. Food prices have just risen 10% or more, and fuel has gone up a lot (though it was at an historic low like a year ago)... but I think from what I'm reading that the UK has it worse. House prices and rents have gone up here also but they've been doing that forever.
