I had to drive the 1 on the way east to help a friend move and Jesus loving Christ, we found the start of the rally driving down in Burnaby and they were blocking all lanes of traffic waving their loving Don’t Tread On Me flags on the ends of hockey sticks, with fascist black Canadian flags all over the place. It just kept going, and going, and going, for kilometers. There are so many people on overpasses cheering them on and their kids waiving flags.

It’s 100% a Fascist rally out here, under the guise of “supporting truckers”.

It's complete bullshit but because they are white it's all good.

I wonder what's longer: The 50-strong fascist idiot convoy, or the line of vehicles behind the OPP that time I was headed to Ottawa after a truck had crossed the median into the westbound highway, hit a rock face and melted into it.

Let me offer some helpful tips for hopefully better posting. In the future, you could try posting a conveniently auto-embedded tweet directly from the source:

https://twitter.com/AdrienLouisSala/status/1487215614460628998?cxt=HHwWjMC4xZiu06MpAAAA

Or if you're posting a link that isn't self-descriptive, you can add context, like that Adrien Sala is the NDP MLA for St. James in Manitoba, and that the video in question (which you didn't link to) shows an anti-mask dude (literally a guy in a jacket) yelling (at his staffers?) in his constituency office. Either way, and even better, you can add your own opinions and analysis thereof. I agree that anti-mask dipshits harassing staffers is bad, but further context like whether this is a semi-random, largely isolated incident or part of a coordinated campaign*, and what the outcome of this particular incident was and why it might be noteworthy, all of that is appreciated.

You can also provide a hyperlink to your favourite insta meme account and explain why you like it, too, although if you attach phone screenshots of rather unremarkable memes and vague, nearly context-free references to a somewhat obscure regional news event, someone like an IK might ask you why.

* to harass politicians along the way; we probably all are aware of the existence of the convoy but also I thought they were well past Manitoba when this incident occurred.

There's a bunch of them parked on the sir John a parkway out front of the war museum, I assume sleeping in their trucks and RVs. It's annoying cause I live close and hear them constantly laying on the horn. But also there's not really anything disruptive about that spot. That road is normally closed weekends anyway

You should go there and honk the horn every 10 minutes until morning.

Lol I ran into the flu trucks clan while crossing Grandview and then Broadway in Vancouver.

It seemed to be just a handful of SUVs scattered in amongst the usual bumper to bumper traffic, honking and waving Canadian flags.

Thankfully no black flags or obvious racism, but it still felt kinda threatening. Driving around in a car honking is certainly a way to make yourself disproportionately heard.

There's aerial photography of some of them parked on the war memorial southeast of Parliament. At least the Q tent camp that was there for a year+ stuck to the bushes.

If they are parking in random places where are they going to plug in their block heaters?

Yes. In freezing temperatures you have to plug in your block heater. It keeps your engine block from freezing up. I'm not sure exactly what that means because I'm not a car-haver, but in most of Canada everyone uses them in the winter. If you don't do it your car . . . breaks?

All the motel parking spots have sockets so you can plug in your block heater. At home you'd run an extension cord from the house. But if you just park in random spots, no sockets.

Okay, looked it up, it turns out they just make your car work faster. If you have a block heater you don't have to wait for your engine to warm up, but nothing breaks if you don't have one.

Haha, you just blew my mind; I haven't thought about block heaters in decades. I did a collective 9 years in Winnipeg as a kid, but moved to BC just before I got my license. I've never had to deal with that as an adult, but I remember there were plugs everywhere in the 'peg.

If you live in Winnipeg, you almost certainly need a block heater to help start your engine in the morning during those -30 deg C mornings. You can get by without one, provided you have a good starter, a well maintained and charged battery, and the least viscous oil your engine will allow. Otherwise, the oil can have the consistency of molasses first thing in the morning, and can really overwork your starter trying to turn the crank.

Not so much an issue if your vehicle is idling all the time. Or, if you have a portable booster unit to give some extra amps to your battery.

(Our car wouldn't start this morn - turns out the acid level in the battery cells were pretty low, connectors had a lot of corrosion, and we discovered the car has an autostart that is always on (and slowly drains the battery over time).

... That being said, if all those vehicles at the Ottawa protest *are* idling away - its not doing any favours to the air quality index for those living nearby...

Yeah when I lived in Northern Newfoundland and Alberta, we never used the block heaters with gas vehicles. However, we did plug in the Diesel trucks when it got like -20 to -40. Otherwise.. nope.

Downtown Ottawa has a very disproportionate homeless population so that's especially disgusting. SGH is overflowing into the street in all but the harshest weather, and there's the entire market plus lovely fast food on Rideau between there and Parliament.

I’ll sometimes plug in if it’s like -30 here but normally just leave it as synthetic oil (I’ve heard) is fine. Just means a little longer to heat up but better than idling.
