Sacred Sweep [Q]
Cast speed increased by 50%.
Cast finish time increased from 0 to .0625 seconds.

What does "Cast finish time" mean? Did they increase the speed of the animation but also made it longer...??

My guess is you're animation locked for .0625 seconds after the actual sweep finishes.

I haven't played in ages, but the Probius changes from a while ago ruin my entire method of playing him. You build pylons and towers to push, and you pop the ult to make them zap enemy buildings. Probius pushes hard like that's the thing that makes Probius unique. A lot of the other push/non-PVP heroes were nerfed long ago, it's sad to see Probius finally fall to the same fate. He was the last holdout of "specialist" heroes that were reassigned to other roles. Is he fun to play in his current state?

The biggest draw for me was always the fact that their voice line that sounds like "WHIRRR-BR-BR-BR-BR-BR-BR-OW" is extremely loud and I would type "*horny robot noises*" when I used it and it riled my team up so I would probably play Probe no matter what happens to the skills and talents.

The most recent set of skins look great, and are making me want to come back and play a few hours each day to get them.

I had MOBA cravings and tried some Dota 2, which I hadn't played since like 2014. The changes since then are huge, but most heroes still feel exactly like they did back then. I can still go bracer/wraith/talisman and boots into battlefury on almost every hero.

Then I played some HOTS, which I haven't played for at least half a year.

HOTS just feels so much better to play. Talent picks are so much more interesting, because all the cruft of last hitting and item farming have been rolled into them. It looks better too, since Valve has stopped caring about the screen being readable and every hero has skins with obnoxious particle effects.

I reluctantly went to HOTS years ago, and I'm so glad I did.

Ballpark figures put the HGC at six million a year and if you think of Esports as basically glorified marketing campaigns (because that's what they are) then it was presumably generating a lot more than that to cover it. But it's tricky because of the cross pollinization with other Blizzard games and the fact that it's on the launcher.

Basically the whole is worth more than the sum of its parts, but if I had to guess I'd say it's still a very good earner and could easily justify a dev team, but I'm basing that on the fact that Blizzard has historically made terrible business decisions and the fact that they wanted Overwatch to succeed at the deliberate expense of all of their other properties (I recall some story about one of the execs absolutely hating that they were still supporting SC2).

In other news, ah Quick Match, never change:

Not sure if serious, but this is the thing that used to get me about weird QM comps, where I knew how to play every hero so every time I'd look at my terrible comp I'd be thinking well if they do this and this then we'll be ok, but in the absence of tanks or good dive the side with the easiest pokes generally wins these clown fiestas, which was the case here:

Li-Ming and Valla, and Mephisto to a lesser extent, can just poke for days and win any objective which relies on area control (basically all of them but in this case it was Cursed Hollow) and like most Artanis players at my level all they have to do is keep spamming the swap and nine times out of ten they hit air but that tenth time they get rewarded with a free kill and probably a team wipe.

I think heroes like Li-Ming (or ranged in general) will always be popular in QM because they have a low skill floor and they're 'safe.' There's plenty of heroes that can counter them, of course, and you can theorycraft a win for any comp on paper, but a lot of the time the counters are more costly to execute in terms of precision and/or timing (so, basically, they require more skill) than the low-effort orb spam or whatever so the safer, lower value play wins out in the end.

But HotS is still a great game and I love it.

But yeah that quest noise is straight mindless exileration, and his AA and D build are hilarious against stitches Diablo or etc late game. I know I'm doing good if their tanks start loitering in the backline.

If Tychus is allowed to autoattack, he does massive damage. You get the best bang for your buck shooting huge HP heroes, but he can also focus down low HP heroes just as fast. Especially if you take the attack speed quest instead of the D talent quest that goes ding ding ding. He is countered by blinds, but also by the enemy jjust going in and slapping your poo poo around. He has no real counter in his own skillset if he gets focused.

The key to doing big damage as Tychus is teamates that enable you to keep shooting. Peeling heroes off of you, disabling heroes that are going to stun or blind you, big AoE slows that force them to get kited while you walk away or retreat and get mowed down.

Sometimes you don't need any of that, because the enemy team does not trying to stop you from shooting. They want to kill somebody else, so you just get to ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding and make people die.

one time a dumbass friend of mine tried to pay me money to write guides for all of the heroes, and i got through like four or five before the blizzard scandal hit and i jettisoned. shockingly the HOTS forums are still online, and the one i did for tychus can still be found.

if you're not interested in clicking a link (understandable), the rundown looks like this:

quote:

Tychus. Big man with the plan. Supposed to be a tankbuster, can kill Valla in less than four seconds once he has Level 4. Genius balance.

Here’s the thing about Tychus: you can kill anyone, and I am not joking about that. Burst them down with Minigun and follow up with Overkill and Frag Grenade when they try to run. He’s all about that Health Shred, so he’ll rip through any Hero with almost no effort.

How’s this fair, you ask? Well, the problem is getting in range to do that. For some reason, despite having a gun that’s literally bigger than he is, Tychus has 4.5 range instead of the standard 5.5. On top of that, the fella’s extreme Attack Speed means that stutter-stepping is out of the question, so he’s much more vulnerable to someone simply walking away than most Ranged heroes.

To be effective with Tychus’s standard combo, you gotta get the drop on someone, have a friend hold them in place with some CC, or be fighting someone that’s exceptionally stupid. Not impossible hurdles, just something you’ve gotta keep in mind.

Incidentally, save Run and Gun to get out of trouble - it’s better to seriously wound an enemy and get away alive than to dive for a kill and miss a teamfight. With how QM’s matchmaking is, there’s a 90% chance that you’ll either be the closest thing the team has to a frontline or the only real damage-dealer, so don’t die to an Easily Preventable Mistake and screw everything up for your team.

Talents

Level 1: Dash
Run and Gun is your only mobility skill, and it sucks without Dash. I know that range increase from Press the Advantage looks VERY juicy, but having slightly easier positioning is not going to save you. If it offered 2 range, then sure, I’d argue for it, but it doesn’t, so I won’t.

Level 4: The Bigger They Are…

TBTA is stupid. Once upon a time, I said a lot of words about why. For now, just trust me when I say that it’s really, absurdly, viciously stupid and it massively increases your killing power against everyone but Garrosh (who it still increases your killing power against, just not by as much).

Level 7: Combat Tactician
More Minigun, More Better. The extra cooldown reduction from Run and Gun is nice, but not really necessary unless you’re desperate.

Level 10: Drakken Laser Drill
You have to plan ahead to use Odin effectively, but the Drakken can be used on pretty much everything at any time. In trouble? Fart out a laser and run away, eating a cooldown is better than dying.

Level 13: That’s the Stuff!
The healing happening on expiration instead of on hit is the #1 reason why In The Rhythm at Level 4 is a bad choice. If it were tied to Minigun’s original duration instead of this nonsense we’d have an actual choice at Level 4, but it isn’t, so we’re not.

Oh, uh, That’s the Stuff! is Tychus’s only source of sustain and Tychus lives and dies by how well he can stand and deliver, so that’s important. You should probably take it anyways to get some pressure off of your healer.

Level 16: Sizzlin’ Attacks
Stacks with Minigun but not That’s the Stuff!, takes the edge off of The Bigger They Are…'s drawback because it’s a separate effect not subject to the health gate (so lol @ Garrosh), generally makes your basic attacks More Gooder.

Level 20: Bob and Weave
Ladies, Gentlemen, and Nonbinary Pals, Mobility Creep has entered the building. Take this to get extra slippery and get a little extra range for your trouble. It is now safe to use one (1) Run and Gun for offensive purposes, but keep the two in reserve just in case. Additionally, Bob and Weave combos with Combat Tactician, so with a little thinking you can have Minigun available all the time.

Situational Advice

If you’re drowning in Blinds…
Sometimes the matchmaker screws you over and pits you against Minigun’s hardest counter: astigmatism. If that happens, take Armor Piercing Rounds at 16 and Can Do This All Day at 20. Spray ‘n’ Pray at 13 is also a decent option, but only recommended if you feel like Minigun is totally useless.

A case for Neosteel Coating
If you’re good enough to predict when you’re about to get totally dumped on by Spell Damage (Kael’s Pyroblast, KTZ’s combo, Chromie’s Rewind, Falstad’s Hinterland Blast, Qhira’s Final Strike), Neosteel Coating can save your butt more effectively and more often than That’s the Stuff!. However, those situations are (comparatively) rare, so make the call as you see fit. Thankfully, Neosteel Coating’s talent tier comes after Level 10, so you can usually wait to see what big damage is on the way.

honestly if you want to take in the rhythm instead of the bigger they are then go for it, just have fun with dumb hero game however you want

Had a blast playing with some old friends where we did gimmick teams.

Valla supported by Morales and Ana. The two healers would drop their buff ultimates on Valla (huge +attack speed, +move speed, +mana, +spellpower, +skill cooldown) and heal/cleanse her while she ripped through 5 heroes in 5 seconds. GIVE VALLA ALL THE METH

Fat Guy Team. Stitches, Cho'gall, Butcher, Deathwing. I would hook a hero as Stitches with Butcher nearby ready to charge, and Deathwing would drop onto them. Cho'gall split soaked two lanes while we murderballed until Butcher could solo a teamfight.

All stealth team was pretty difficult but we managed a win. Zeratul, Valeera, Nova, Samuro. Fifth was supposed to be Tyrande with the lvl 10 team stealth ult, but he went Tassadar instead and took shadow walk as a copout. I was Zeratul and took Void Prison for the first time in like 5 years so we could freeze two or more enemy heroes and set them up to get instantly deleted when the time stop ended. Tassadar got to push a lane uncontested because the enemy team wanted to fish for kills on our fragile blob of stealth heroes. He did some heavy lifting by just slowly pushing down his lane all the way to their core.

Did an all healer one vs AI and I got top hero damage by a huge margin as Malfurion. If you can consistently land roots and take the treant talent at 1, that little tree dude hits HARD. Was around 450 damage per attack when the match ended.

fuck the fuck off.
Still, two years later, feel like the biggest self-own this game made was the change to the matchmaker and roles of Heroes.

It happily generates lineups where one side has a functional, if not role, tank (Xul, Zarya, etc.) then doesn't the other, then consistently the team that has a frontline wins, both for & against. Extend this also to 'Tank' role Heroes who then can elect to talent Damage to the point they're squishy - The Varian problem.

Being able to settle whether you'll win or not at the loading screen is just... annoying.

That's what happens when you make the leap from "casual party MOBA" to "drafting esport MOBA" and then lose your playerbase. In theory it's a better design for the game, but in practice it's completely reliant on your game remaining popular. I feel the urge to repeat this advice from long ago:
