Face Full of Baby

TropiCalamari (Yuna Mizumori & Chris Brookes) VS Chie Koishikawa & Shin Suzuki

While TropiCalamari (Yuna Mizumori & Chris Brookes) is one of the rarer pairings in ChocoPro (despite their devout allegiance to one another), they're also one of the more complicated teams on tap. There is a bit of animosity lingering since Chris murdered one of Yunamon's friends...and then wore the Balloon Flamingo's skin to try and encourage her in a later match...ChocoPro is complicated. Luckily things move so quickly in Ichigaya that she might have forgotten! Anyhow, something magical happens when you combine the explosive joy (and power) of Tropical Fairy Yunamon with the gloomy cruelty (and technical ability) of Chris Brookes. Yuna brings with her a nearly endless endurance and an arsenal of heavy hitting attacks that make the most of her immense speed & power. Her physical ability is only outdone by her deep sea of charisma, expect to get swept up in it. Once the Tropical Yahho starts rolling, you can't stop it! This Sing Song Lariat Machine pairs well with the Tsundere Submission Specialist (as always). Brookes might be known for his villainy in the Chocolate Square, but Masa's CDK tag partner is quite fond of Yuna! His long reach and deep selection of submissions and reversals make him one of the most dangerous foes in Ichigaya. Chris is far more than just submissions, mind you. He is a threat in every category imaginable! Watch out for that Praying Mantis Bomb! (Fun fact: Yunamon wanted this team to be named PINA*POO)

“Too Much Energy” Chie Koishikawa is growing more unstable. As long predicted, that bewildering dark side she taps into is getting more and more dominant...especially due to her frustrations with losing! While Chie is normally known for her cheery nature and intense agility, the brutality that gets revealed whenever her face (or voice) changes is quite frightening! Long time fans will remember the previous times that “dark” has begun to overwhelm one of the students of Emi Sakura, as it seems to be a kind of tradition...even for former fencers with backhanded knuckle chops! Hopefully her returning ally will help keep the darkness in check. (Though given she once threatened to turn his baby into an onigiri to test if he was truly a good person...well anyhow, they get along now, its okay!) That ally is Shin Suzuki, represented by the Onigiri! (Don't think about it too much!) Slowly becoming a usual “face” around these parts, Shin usually teaches children at the Heat Up dojo (where he also wrestles). His warm personality and shocking athleticism fits well with the general vibe of Ichigaya! Much like many of the guests for the online promotion, he has appeared across a wide variety of the Japanese independent scene. (ChocoPro is always a good sampler for new things!) Will he be able to keep the darkness at bay for Chie, or will their chaotic relationship bring it out even more?

The Unstoppable Best Bros

Best Bros (Mei Suruga & Baliyan Akki) VS Minoru Fujita & Sayaka Obihiro

Right there! The Best Bros (Baliyan Akki & Mei Suruga) have been the Asia Dream Tag Champions for a long time. With each Belt Day that passes, their dominance (and their hubris) grows...Lately, Mei has even started calling herself a god! (Also she's been trying to eat her opponents, but let's brush over that too for now) Is anyone able to stop these two elite level tag experts? “Apple God” Mei Suruga tends to be the one who seals the deal, one way or another. This Pin Specialist and Submission Lover will find a way to put their foes down, every single time (she can even do the Spider-Mei without splatting now)! The Ace of ChocoPro, Akki, manages to keep a cool head unlike his fiery partner, delivering breezy strike combos and showing why he is such a great all-arounder: will the Zephyr of Ichigaya perform an aerial feat? Will he wrap them in that brutal Kimagure Lock? These two are deadly on their own, but together they're a universal threat. While the team to dethrone them has yet to appear (though they might even be on this show...), this time they'll be facing a more than adequate pairing: two of the strongest veterans! Let's hope that the strange dissonance between them we've been seeing lately doesn't come into play. Still, as of right now, the Best Bros are the pinnacle of the promotion's tag division!

Sayaka Obihiro is a treasure to this world. Pillar of Gatoh Move, tremendous worker, certified chef, a warm mentor, all of which with a sense of humor that is unmatched (except, maybe, by Anton!)...I'm glad we've had Obi back for so long! Obi has high charisma, great gear (did you know its called costume in Japan?), a chop that sounds like a car door slamming, and a flurry based pinning technique that I have yet to see anywhere else! Every single time the Blue Flame has appeared on ChocoPro it has been a blast, she really brings it! In the first match featuring both of them since her 11th anniversary, she will be pairing up with the Super Asia Champion, Minoru Fujita! Known for his accolades in singles, deathmatches, and especially tags (also his angelic singing voice), a team up with Fujita is a good reward for Obi's hard work as of late. While the Interim Champ might hold the belt, the ferocity of the true champ can't be ignored. But can he call himself the champ without the belt? This bird loving former belt collector is still a terror with endless endurance! These two together (both frequent partners of Emi Sakura) should be able to find a rhythm beyond the usual levels of the tag division! (Fun fact: These two also have some of the best laughs you'll ever hear)

INTERIM SUPER ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP

Choun Shiryu (c) VS Masa Takanashi

Choun Shiryu is the Dragon of Ichigaya...and the Interim Super Asia Champion! Whether he is flying across Ichigaya, hanging upside down and choking people, or supposedly dressing up as a crooked cop at GanPro...He brings with him an dynamic intensity and unbound creativity that few possess. His lighter-than-air movements and brutal alternative strikes are fantastic. Choun's Kung Fu inspired move set makes all of his matches must watch, because it is nothing like you've seen before. He makes every match look like a fight scene from a Jackie Chan movie (his idol!) with his expertise in motion and punishment. Unfortunately for the Dragon, many usurpers have begun to rise up. Minoru Fujita will be returning to attempt to reclaim his Big Blue Belt, Akki is dead set on proving the championship is his destiny, and Mei Suruga has some lofty goals this season! Potentially the greatest threat of them all, however, is his eternal rival: Masa Takanashi! These two battle one another in a yearly tradition...but have been destined to clash again since their Kung Fu infused last singles bout! This time the stakes are much higher, though...will the Super Asia Belt be too heavy a weight for the Dragon to maintain? Even if so, Choun has been a wonderful champion. But don't worry! As Choun would say, ”So what?”! Remember...”Don't think. Feel!”

The Protagonist has arrived! Masa Takanashi is finally getting his Super Asia Championship shot...and on his birthday! He's been marvelous since he returned to action, proving just how valuable he is as an asset (to multiple promotions) in every way. Whether teaming with Chris Brookes in CDK, testing the rookies in intense bouts, or just showing off his comedy chops...Masa rules. Often referred to as the “Drunken Monkey”, this wild brawler with a unique style (and a deep appetite for alcohol!) originally trained under Ultimo Dragon...but spent most of his learning experience at the dojo of DDT. Masa is a swaying, smooth as butter Counter Style fighter. If you've never experienced a defensive technician, buckle up! He'll damage your limbs, your nose, and probably your ego! While his movements might seem drunken, Masa tends to make his foes feel like they're the ones that are hung over. He is the main pillar (and President!) of Gatoh Move and has had a storied career in his 18 years in the business! But for a large portion of that career he has battled Choun Shiryu, over and over. The rivals have clashed for many reasons as time passed...but this time the stakes are higher than ever. Will Masa get himself the greatest birthday present of all? If this is anything like the previous times they have fought, we're in for a real treat...(and match of the season candidate!)

While it might be the Tiger's year, will the Monkey or the Dragon steal the show? Who leaves as the Interim Super Asia Champ?

INTERIM SUPER ASIA CHAMPIONSHIP

Choun Shiryu (c) VS Baliyan Akki

Champion Choun Shiryu declared that this fight has already been decided. His promo ability is underrated (many in ChocoPro are shockingly good despite how rare speeches are in the promotion) but this statement took the cake (or the chocolate, I suppose). Choun explained that he will become stronger by absorbing the desire to become champion of Akki, just like he did with Yuna Mizumori, Antonio Honda, and even Masa Takanashi. The last of which, if you missed it, was a frightening omen of what is to come for Akki. The match finished with Choun hitting a vertebreaker in Ichigaya, followed by a Project A (his coffin drop) that involved him jumping off the window...then pushing himself down forcefully from the ceiling to add momentum. The Dragon is a frightening champion, and deserves to carry that big blue belt. The “Blue Gold” as Akki called it can really elevate its bearer (as titles usually should) and these defenses have done a wonderful job of proving just how good Choun Shiryu is. It is hard to believe in his long career that this was the first singles championship he held, but hopefully will not be the last. To call Choun innovative is a bit of an understatement, because he does even the most basic parts of pro-wrestling his own unique way. All of Choun's matches become like the Kung Fu action movies he based his style on, with his smooth reversals and scary speed sometimes requiring a rewind to see just how he pulled it off! Even if the unthinkable happens and he is brought down, Choun has been a great Champion and one hundred percent worthy of the praise he gets from the loyal audience. This combat artist will give us another one of his unforgettable performances. This match has all the ingredients to be one of his masterpieces, after all. The Dragon & the Wolf will clash, but only one will finish this show as the Interim Super Asia Champion. Either way...thank you, Choun.

Baliyan Akki once described himself as a lone wolf in a blizzard, a metaphor that I've been quite fond of since. I'm not entirely sure he is free of that endless snow storm just yet, however. Akki is definitely the Ace of ChocoPro. Something about the way he moves, so liquid yet so sharp...but there has always been something hanging over him. Whether it was the struggles against the veterans of the Independent scene that would visit Ichigaya, the years before he began to gain recognition, his own self doubt when paired along side the brilliant sun that is Mei Suruga, or the fact that he failed to claim the Super Asia belt when it was brought back into play. It has been a long time since ChocoPro 100, but Akki has never fully recovered. Now that curse has been broken into two steps by fate itself, with Minoru Fujita having taken time off for health reasons (creating the Interim Championship), meaning even if the talented Ace brings down the Dragon, he will still need to defeat the “true” champion in the unification match later. Is Akki up to such a task? His skill, at least, is unquestionable. It is always a joy for me to see new viewers so excited when they get to see Akki go wild for the first time since there is criminally little buzz about him online (there should be a lot more, bigger promotions are starting to take note). He is in that rare category of near perfect all-arounders. Adding a little twist to all of his moves, he earned the epithet “the Zephyr of Ichigaya” because he manages to bring aerial feats to such a small space with such ease. A cool breeze moving through the Square. He'll need that high flying, his strong knowledge of submissions, and even his flowing combination strikes to all be absolutely on point if he hopes to do what even Masa Takanashi could not. To bring down the Dragon, Choun Shiryu, during his dominant reign. Just remember...even if he succeeds (and that is a big if), it is only the first of two steps toward redemption. Good luck, Ace.

Is Akki's Destiny the Super Asia Championship...or to fall in pursuit of it as just another “Promising Talent”?

Sword Magic 2, YoneyaMadoka Preview

Best Bros (Mei Suruga & Baliyan Akki) VS Sayaka Obihiro & Hagane Shinno

Right there! The Best Bros (Baliyan Akki & Mei Suruga) now hold both the Asia Dream Tag Championship and the (Interim) Super Asia title. They have ascended to the peak of the promotion! Mei has even started calling herself a god... (Also she's been trying to eat her opponents, but let's brush over that too for now) Is anyone able to stop these two elite level tag experts? A legendary team has been called out to try, YoneyaMadoka, and we'll get out first taste of this rivalry tonight. “Apple God” Mei Suruga tends to be the one who seals the deal, one way or another. This Pin Specialist and Submission Lover will find a way to put their foes down, every single time! The Ace of ChocoPro (and Interim Super Asia Champion), Akki, manages to keep a cool head unlike his fiery partner. He delivers breezy strike combos and shows off why he is such a great all arounder: will the Zephyr of Ichigaya perform an aerial feat? Will he wrap them in that brutal Kimagure Lock? He revealed much more of his arsenal in his last bout, which I highly advise you to check out! These two are deadly on their own, but together they're a universal threat. Since the Best Bros will be taking on YoneyaMadoka in the 200 Special, it makes sense that they will be trying to prove themselves against Hagane...but don't count Obihiro out just yet!

Bearer of the Blue Heart, Sayaka Obihiro, returns! The seasoned veteran might usually be busy with her Chef duties, (and sometimes nightmares) but that doesn't mean she can't occasionally cook up a top tier match in Ichigaya! (Although quite often it involves fighting off the invading UMA monsters) Obihiro is always a treat to watch, with a charismatic personality and a flashy set of gear. Her wild demeanor and deep sense of humor will win you over pretty quickly. Add in her smooth way of moving and ungodly striking capability, and she'll be making magic along side Hagane Shinno! The handsome devil (mind you, I called him this before HOOK gained the epithet!) and “Cold Killer” is usually a man of few words...but a lot of violence! His relentless assaults (consisting of heavy striking and vicious technical prowess) bring the often lighthearted ChocoPro back to the Brutality of Reality. While he is usually paired with Chie in EGG TART, this match is actually in service to a much older combination...YoneyaMadoka, with Kaori Yoneyama! Come to think of it, Egg Tart makes a lot of sense given Hagane's choice in tag partners...Will he show the Best Bros what awaits them on Episode 200?

YoneyaMadoka Preview, Part 2

”Too Much Energy” Chie Koishikawa VS Kaori Yoneyama

Too Much Energy Chie Koishikawa returns to the Main Event! The Frantic Fencer of the Fourth Generation has been growing at a breakneck pace, with her popularity rising just as quickly! How can you resist that wild dancing? From her joyous introductions, to her alternative ways of doing common moves, to her Janken collapses, to her deep signs of despair...Chie is a force of nature. If you have yet to see her dash around the Square, strike with her backhanded fencing chops, or reverse something into a modified Stretch Muffler...you're missing out. While she might have been able to win over the crowd, Chie has been struggling through the past few seasons. That hidden darkness within her grows with each failure...and at least for now she doesn't have Egg Tart to fall back on: this story isn't about her. In spite of this, can she overcome someone with far more experience through sheer passion and raw talent (and maybe a little darkness)? Well, another chance to prove herself against Yoneyama has emerged. Will she find herself overcome by the wily veteran once again? Can Chie break the wheel?

Kaori Yoneyama is a fascinating woman with an interesting story. I am thoroughly glad she chose not to retire ten years ago! Between appearing as a surly clown for STARDOM (at least according to AZM), running her own Promotion (YMZ), and kicking rear end at Oz Academy, PURE-J, and more (all promotions you should check out!), she is constantly busy. I'm not sure if I could handle that schedule! That being said, her singles record in the Chocolate Square is actually flawless. (If you haven't seen her series of singles matches from Episode 22 to 25 it's amazing) Despite her shy and passive nature outside the ring, there is a sort of madness to Yoneyama's style of wrestling. For instance, the audience sometimes finds themselves used as a weapon (with Kaori grabbing the camera for some PoV beatings)! While she might be able to bamboozle some the greatest in the promotion, she won't be able to out run our own High Speed representative! However, even so, Yoneyama is a intensely gifted wrestler...Maybe, if Chie can see through her hijinks, then perhaps she can find a path to victory...Go Chie! Remember her tactics from the last time! Don't be fooled! (She's going to get fooled) The Best Bros had better watch this bout. Even when they beat her as Tag Champ, they didn't pin or submit Yoneyama!

See you next Season!

In the modern world of sports stats and analytics are king. From Moneyball to the rise of the 3 points shot in basketball analytics have reshaped the sports landscape. Finally these tools are now available in the world of pro-wrestling.

https://twitter.com/payne2337/status/1487629347049537536

Aja Kong is the most efficient of all time, winning her only match in her only tournament to take the chocolate, Shida also won 1 match in her only tournament, but tied twice.

Chie really is terrible at this, winning the chocolate 9 times. Sadly the spreadsheet doesn't have the number of tournaments, but she's wracked up the losses.
