Finally beat both Oracles games too and they were solid. I think I only partly completed Ages as a kid.

I just played through both of those recently, after the same situation as a kid. I thought the overworlds were nice and I liked the music and characters, especially in Seasons (and also shout outs to Ralph), but the dungeons were kinda bunk in both games, and with one notable exception from each game I thought the items were kind of boring. Still good overall, though, and the linked game thing was neat.

Since I really liked Dread, I got thinking about how much I liked the different Metroid-games. So I made a second Tier-list to show my very own opinion on how awesome the different Metroid-games are:

I'll get to them, eventually. Also the tier-maker I got didn't have Metroid Returns. I'd rank that one slightly above the original Metroid II.

Does all progress reset in MM when the moon lands? I don't even know where I played it but I remember the intro bit vaguely but then nothing after. I am going in completely blind aside from the ending being spoiled for me in this loving amazing video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQXsiJ1lLss

I am working through OOT now and just got to the Forest Temple and man - this game is just straight up incredible still. But I have no idea how I solved any of this poo poo back then. I don't think GameFAQs was quite so big on release so it was a lot of bashing my head until something worked. Like, I totally missed the key in the entrance.

Majora's Mask is all about looping through the same 3 days over and over until you've done everything you need to fight the final boss. Generally speaking Link himself will stay the same, keeping any items you've found or songs you've learned, but the world state will be reset to the start.

I don't actually remember if letting the Moon hit lets you keep your stuff like a normal loop, or is a proper game over and makes you reload you last save, but you can restart the loop at any time so it's only going to happen if you deliberately let time run out to see the cutscene for it.

Can anyone who has upgraded from a standard Switch to an OLED help me make a bad decision?

If you can afford it, the oled is so worth it if you play handheld. Think about it. You got in 5 years out of use out of your switch so you obviously use it/ like it a lot, not to mention the battery is probably getting a little long in the tooth. As others mentioned, you can resell it so the upgrade won't be as expensive as full price

And man, better battery life, gorgeous OLED panel, and thinner bezels. I'm a big switch nerd and even though I got the red box model, I still upgraded. That was a bit wasteful but it still totally worth it. Especially after using the same device for 5 years, the OLED panel makes every game look better (pixel 2d games really really pop). The thinner bezels make the whole thing feel much more luxurious and are really nice for somebody who is hopelessly blind like me

Going from a straight launch unit to the OLED is a really nice upgrade. Add a nice matching grip and this is the coolest handheld I've ever owned. Don't do it if you only play docked though!!

Anyways, I got mine in white because I wanted it to feel nice and new! Blue and red model looks okay too but white is so slick

It's been quite a while since I played MM so forgive me if these aren't totally accurate, but:
  • Gear/accessories/upgrades are permanent, but anything in "quantity" (bombs, arrows, rupees) are lost when you reset time.
  • There's a bank that kind of works on the honor system that allows you to put away rupees if you manage to do so before you reset time.
  • You have a notebook that tracks quests and marks when you complete them. When you help NPCs in the world you get a stamp in the notebook. When you reset time, the NPCs go back to having whatever their problems are again, so the only evidence that you ever helped them is your notebook.
  • The canonical way of saving your game is to reset time, though the remake lets you save anywhere I think and you can use save states with emulators. Keep in mind though that MM is designed around all of your play sessions starting on the first day.
  • There's two additional songs--one that slows the passage of time, and another that moves you forward in the cycle. You can use the first in a longer session, to make sure you have enough time to complete a dungeon, while the latter lets you move to the correct day if needed for quest purposes.
On that last point, I think both additional songs are taught to you by optional NPC encounters. I probably learned of them from Nintendo Power or something. Anyways, some people really don't like MM because of the time constraint but they're unaware that there's a song that slows down time so that it's basically no longer a constraint.

I mean I know it's not really a constraint, for me I just didn't enjoy the format personally within a fantasy adventure franchise where travel and exploration were usually the focus. Very cool and original for its time though, some of us were just expecting a straight sequel to OOT.

Generally, I'm not a fan of time loop kind of games because of how repetitive they feel
