around 2010 when music blogs dominated and you could readily find all kinds of underground stuff, curated by category and interests, that was a really exciting time. I still miss it. felt kinda like little communities all over.

Yeah those were cool times. We used to post them up here all the time when someone found cool stuff. Thats why the post a music thread is so great, it kind of fills the same niche, even if it's just youtubes. You can still go looking for a downloadable copy (or just strip out the mp3 from the video using any number of methods :filez:).
I know I bang on about spotify being really good with its recommendations, but I think really it's only because I've been using it for over a decade so by now it is well trained. But the seed material, usually I get that from internet radio shows. Theres some great DJs on point blank fm, and if I can't catch their sets live I'll listen on mixcloud. If there's one particularly fire track, I'll add it to my Spotify liked songs. College/university radio usually has some interesting shows, and I would cherry pick tunes that they dig out of the crates. If I just want some innocuous vibing, there's always stuff like KCRW eclectic 24 or good old Soma FM. Sometimes there's some really great tracks that come up, where I'm like, I would never have looked for this kind of thing on my own, but drat it's a good song.
Anyway thanks for listening to my coffee induced textual dump TED talk.

youtube compilations of animal crossing music have been a vital stabilizing force in times of mental health crisis. also when i first moved into my current home and hadn't gotten internet set up yet i would turn on fallout new vegas and just sit down somewhere and let the radio be my background music, also very soothing.

Big iron is a classic. I think the Pete song is really chaotic and high energy for me. Big iron has a nice slow rhythm to it

The kind that you wield like a double-edged safety razor (or lady razor or disposable bic razor) is better, not the kind that you use like a straight razor.

And I say this as someone who prefers to use a straight razor as a face-peeler.

Tampa Bae

Please, this is all I have
I made progress on the rodent problem by calling around some storage unit places and seeing how many units I could rent at one time/cost per month just to get some of this junk out of my parent's house then calling around some moving companies and seeing how much it would cost to have them help me move it.

I wonder how much I could leave in a storage unit without my parents ever noticing. a unit full? two units full? They'd never know what they were missing and I'd make them tell me what it was before I brought it back. Anything they can't remember I'll just sell off/donate/give away. seriously there's two people living in their house and they have 5 couches

My parents will probably be back before any of this gets set into motion but I'm just going to stick around and get it done for their own good. I don't know how they've put up with living with rodents in their house. They can afford to have someone access the house and plug in any holes that rodents are getting in, they're remodeling the entire outside of the house in spring anyway

Big Iron is how I figured out that Marty Robbins is one of my fave singers ever. I listen to a lot of his stuff now. I've only once been at the bar and anyone knew who he was when I queued up some songs. I was way tempted to try to shag an older chick, too bad my wife was working.

mom report

my mom: got a little stoned and called me up to ask if I ever went on a sleigh ride and if I was gonna go on one this weekend, and then told me a story about her dog walking on all four legs, I forgot to ask but I bet she's gonna make chili this weekend
bingo bango's mom: doing great, seems to be eating a lot of crab cakes, gave me a large jug of kombucha from the store for unclear reasons, and made me borrow a blender for also unclear reasons

hope all your moms are thriving in this time of bad weather, check in on them and make sure they're cooking up good stuff for themselves this weekend. if you're cold, they're cold. I don't have a dad report tonight because I didn't talk to him but allegedly he was taking a nap with Criminal Minds on.
