"The entire history of this incarnation is one of temporal orbits, retcons, paradoxes, parallel time lines, reiterations, and divergences. How anyone can make head or tail of all this chaos, I don't know."

DaveKap posted:

I see a lot of discussion happened about the tragic backstories of starship crewmembers. Although the teased clip for SNW is about one such backstory being told, the important thing to remember is that current Trek's failings aren't necessarily about the content, it's about the delivery of the content. Owoshekun's tragic backstory, if delivered appropriately, would've been a phenomenal character building moment, greeted warmly by an audience who has felt Discovery was severely lacking in growth for anyone on screen. However, it was delivered during an urgent moment, used as a direct explanation for why a choice was made, and never returned to. It was done just to fill time. It's constantly done to fill time. Does this show even air on television anywhere? Time filling is pointless and yet it's happening anyway. This is just the new normal for modern live Trek.

So if it's done to fill time for SNW, then yeah, we can worry about the show. Otherwise, eh, let's just wait and see how this thing's built before we start saying it's made of straw.

...unless the clip leaks and Uhura's actress is just horrible.

Discovery seems to work on JoJo rules where talking s a free action.

Prodigy isn't great, but it's not bad. It's extremely kid focused, and does pretty good at that, but there's not much complexity yet, just some obvious morals and kid friendly attitude. It's fine, but tbh it's pretty skippable.

Yea I'm not saying it's poo poo, it's just not very good. It's absolutely not on the level of Lower Decks.

They asked him if he'd want to pay Picard at any point and he said he's down for it. CBS is swimming in Star Trek cash now; I wonder if they have enough to possible court Tom Hardy back after Nemesis nearly drove him to suicide?

Voyager came back from the DQ utterly STACKED with cutting-edge gently caress you tech. If even like 10% of that is loaded onto the Dauntless, then I pity the fools who get in between Janeway and the Protostar. Which, apparently is going to be a thing because the showrunners have said that Season 2 of Prodigy is going to be like the Fugitive, where you're rooting for both Harrison Ford (the kids) and Tommy Lee Jones (Janeway) equally, but poo poo just keeps pushing them into confrontation with one another through misunderstanding and circumstance. So that's gonna get real interesting. Might be a nice way to play into the memes built up around Galactic Tyrant Kathryn Janeway while still also having her be Heroic Starfleet Paragon Kathryn Janeway.

Crisis on Infinite Janeways

E: Either that or Janeway is one of those people who takes the adage "I am the villain of my own story" WAY too literally...

E2: So when Janeway dies and goes to the Black Mountain beyond death, will she have to face all her alternate selves as a part of her trial? Or is that just a Bajoran thing?

I somehow completely missed the fact that Disco S4 started airing in November. Guess I have a bit to catch up on. What’s the general thread feeling on this vs S3? Better? Worse? More of the same? Obviously I risk spoiling something for myself by hanging around before I watch it but eh.. I thought S3 was … okay, I guess, so ultimately I’m not going to cry if I get burned.

season 3 was at least interesting because they changed up the setting and brought back some classic TOS characters and races, also saint Michael Burnam is less insufferable even though she still saves the day everytime the ship gets in trouble. Season 4 feels like its treading water, the season long arc it's currently going through is pretty boring. There is a decent episode with Tilly with bunch of starfleet cadets thats fun. Expect to fold a lot of laundry because most scenes are way too melodramatic over nothing, all the character interactions are such a slog to even get through. I'm still watching for the few characters Iike but even the good ones have already left.

It's extremely dull

S3 had some OK moments (mostly at the beginning), but in S4 they are playing up a lot of drama in the main cast that isn't interesting at all, and they have been dragging out the big, galaxy spanning threat for ages to the point where I have stopped caring.
