Okay, I can get some of the symbols. A cube for Order, an X for Endings, a spiral for Renewal, a claw mark for Challenges. Those are fine enough. Some are pretty whatever: Is Hope a smile? Turn it upside down and it's a frown? Expressions and Mystery are both just squiggles.

But man, what mind goes to think of a symbol for "Freedom" and comes up with vertical bars?

Hope looks kind of like a rainbow in its current version, which would make sense. And hasn't the Renewal symbol been drawn inconsistently too?

Renewal got shorter and more open when he tied it to the dream gate vine things.

I'm just, you know, raising my eyebrow at the symbol for Freedom being prison bars.

But for the first time in my life, I think I've gone too far.
She poured Swamp Water onto the paper, then plopped ink onto that and the Swamp Water dragged the ink into those strokes. She didn't draw them with her brush, so they aren't going to look like her normal writing.

yeah i mean, the brush hes using just doesnt remotely resemble how ink (on wet or dry) looks. Its been like that the whole time, but its just more obvious here for some reason, it looks like paint.

I just cannot cope with the fact that Mookie wrote a story that revolved around going to a public library to look things up and then didn't even bother coming up with an explanation to justify immediately leaving it and loving off to the middle of nowhere.

Why is she doing an ink reading? Why is it important that she use the lake water for it?

How was the reading not clear? Other than the first three, they seemed pretty clear to me!

Well if you remember, the librarian told Snout his time was up, I assume that means for good, so he wasn't able to go back, I guess.

Ink witchcraft seems to be, like, exceptionally lame. Or maybe Ink Witch is just a really bad ink witch? Because her magical superpower seems to be indistinguishable from what fortune teller in a strip mall doing tarot readings does...except the strip mall fortune teller's tarot deck is more complex and visually interesting than anything in those fuckin' ink drip readings. I mean when Ink Witch bothers to do them at all. This is like the second time, the first being back when they were busking in Mongreltown, or am I forgetting something?

Anyway, very early on Ink Witch occasionally did poo poo like make magical letters appear in midair...but only to have "no-dialog" conversations with Snout. Which is the lamest possible use for making magical letters appear. And I guess maybe there's something involving the ink ship? Maybe? Like it isn't actually clear that the ship has anything at all to do with ink magic...or magic at all...as opposed to being some random airship thing that Ink Witch drives or whatever.

But that's kinda the problem with literally everything in Legacy: it's isn't particularly clear what anything has to do with anything. It's really just mesmerisingly bad storytelling. AI random text generators routinely exhibit more purpose and clarity of thought than Legacy does.

there does not seem to be a direct correlation between whatever it is IW does with her ink readings and everything else she projects ink to do which is chef's kiss because you know there ISN'T one at all, and won't be until mookie has a thought

As I've said before, it's baffling that Mookie decided the ship belonged to the Ink Witch, and even more so that it's turned out to be her signature ability, and in fact her only ability of any practical value at all. It's all she really does.

Mookie gave his ink witch a giant ink brush instead of a broom, then had her fly around in an aircraft she summons. She doesn't even draw it into existence using her giant brush, she conjures it by using a normal-sized brush to draw it on a piece of paper. She doesn't really use the big broom-brush at all.

God, it's just so frustrating. His imagination breaks down in the most peculiar ways.

And so far that's the only thing she does that with. Does her magic only do crappy fortune telling otherwise? Isn't a LITERAL INK SPACESHIP just... Way, way more impressive than that?

It's a story involving magic, books, magic books, and a search, involving books, for a secret about the most famous magic guy there ever was...and there's a character whose specialty is magic involving ink...and she does...absolutely nothing.

Like the only ink magic Ink Witch does involved in actually finding ~*the Legacy*~ is when the unnamed chandak lady texts Snout via his journal and gives specific instructions to do ink magic on the Asinotaph book. Chandak lady even supplies the ink!

Sometimes I really want to touch the poop and ask Mookie to explain his thought processes, and if he ever regrets his choices because the baffling destruction of all even potentially interesting ideas is really amazing. Can’t think of another writer who comes close
