You think you have the wherewithal to figure out my puzzle vagina?

It's good if you can ever get through it, I found Stein's Gate definitely worth it in the end. It's part of the big reason I'm still trying to push through Umineko. I'm close to the end (midway through part 7) I think but I still just don't see why everyone thinks this is so special, but I liked Stein's Gate enough by the end that I was willing to say ok, that was worth going all the way through so I'm trying to give Umineko like the full benefit of the doubt, but I at least thought Stein's Gate really picked up around halfway through and stayed good, whereas Umineko will pick up have some good parts and then go right back into these long scenes that I just do not care about at all for various reasons that would I guess be spoilery to go into
In a last-ditch effort to give me a push to want to try again, I poked around for enough spoilers to try and make myself intrigued. It didn't quite work, but at least now I can see/imagine why people keep insisting Okabe gets better.

Yeah I mean I dunno if spoilers will really do it justice, imo it's a very well executed arc and experience

I know it's a losing battle considering the title of this thread, but it's ridiculous to call those "all ages" versions when they still require you to be 18 to purchase, they've just had some sexual content removed.

FINALLY!!!

After falling off it like an hour in, I finally decided to sit down and play through Somnium Files.

I like it, glad to get extended discussion on weird mythology and science stuff after ZTD didn't have much.

I don't mind that it's a much more jokey tone than the Zero Escape series (which obv was also goofy don't get me wrong) but so far (I only finished the Iris route) I find it a bit tonally jarring to have Date throw a porno mag and have soldiers all get distracted by it only to have him immediately murder them by shooting an explosive barrel next to them. At least when he threw the underwear at the others they jumped off the pier instead of getting smushed by the cargo container he dropped on them!

Completed all of the left side besides a lock (that was visible to me) and unlocked the last node I had remaining on the right side and did like 30mins of it before going to bed last night, about to Psync with Hifumi.

Honestly not sure what to make with this "actually the psync device was made to swap bodies" twist. I'm sure that it'll work out in the end within the confines of the story but with the pieces I have been trying to put together it kind of makes things maybe a bit too obvious. Or maybe I'm completely off base, I dunno!
My guess now though is that based on stuff I've seen, Date's body or mind are Sojima's son, altho I'm not sure which. And Date's body is the cyclops killer which is why Iris saw him in her Somnium murdering that girl. Zero clue who Date swapped with 6 years ago though or why he has no memory, unless it's a defect of the machine or that he was actually an AI shoved into the body or something.

What I really liked about how AI approached its big mysteries is that usually the characters figured things out close to the same time I did, so there wasn't a whole lot of jumping through hoops to get to a foregone conclusion.

In particular heavily scrutinizing the logs/codecs once I reached a certain point let a lot of things fall into place just right at the right time.

Woof, Buried Stars's translation is rough.

Ibram Gaunt
Jul 22, 2009

Ok, I finished AI. Good game. Only a couple minor complaints I think. Mostly just what I posted earlier about the tone being a bit weird in some parts. I don't mind the goofy at all, but I think it undercut a few of the action scenes to include the zany porn mag stuff. IDK. Hyped for tthe sequel

I have zero non anecdotal evidence to base this on, but I really feel like there's got to be very few good translation companies for KR > EN, especially compared to like Japanese. Squid Game, Troubleshooter, LobCorp...

It’s pretty highly rated on VNDB.

I enjoyed it, for a bit. it's not really long, but it's fine.

speaking of recommendations, I recently played Life and Suffering of Sir Brante and I loved it. It's exactly what I love to see in VNs. Branching narrative, great writing and consequences for characters. I really highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the more CYOA style of Visual novels.

Growing ups good for a couple runs. But the game is tuned really easy once you know how to game it, and that kinda ruins it.

I overcame some brain problems tonight and actually began something - The House in Fata Morgana.

I've only read for an hour or so but I've gotta say it got its hooks in pretty fast! At this point, it's late and I'm more psyched than is maybe necessary so I figured I'd swing by and see if anybody wants to talk about what an awesome (or I guess poor?) choice I've made.

If you want to listen to someone else's book club, we covered Fata Morgana on a previous season of Visual Novel Book Club, a podcast where we read a chapter of a VN at a time then record a discussion about it. I think all of us still think it's the best game we've covered on the podcast. Available where podcasts usually are or on YouTube.

Man, I picked that VN up but then I never got around to reading it, it's just been sitting in Steam ever since. And it's keeping me away from listening to the VNBC season about it too, because if people say it's good I want to read it myself first. Maybe this is a good time to start.

Wow, high praise indeed then! I stumbled on Higurashi (the anime) a little over a decade ago and loved the poo poo out of it. I assume the VNs are excellent too but I've had the interest and the right hardware at the same time.
