The internet is buckwild because I feel like it's been really great at almost naturally creating more left-leaning folks through exposure to diverse groups and ideas, and redirecting frustrations to their root causes, but on the other hand it's incredibly great at making anyone socially isolated an easy target for radicalization through the same frustrations. It probably doesn't help that we have so much of a broader view of things that everything also feels so much more polarizing?

The continental divide seems to be curiosity. Some people want to learn about what they don't know, others simply want confirmation that what they believe is correct. The right wing "intellectuals" don't have a following because they present new information. They have a following because they twist new information to fit the already-established world view of their audience. Once they reach something they can't rationally twist, they lose out to more radical and ridiculous sources, and ultimately become the enemy themselves for presenting reality. There are ultimately people at the extremes of both the left and right being radicalized in the same manner, but the world view of the right is being rapidly outdated by science and fact, and they have to twist harder and dig deeper to justify it.

Was the protest leader also hoping to incite other protestors? e: Yes, it seems this analysis is correct.

Can't wait to see how all this lifting of restrictions plays out, especially mask mandates. Weather isn't quite hospitable enough for people to just flow outdoors. Also no idea how Fall will look in the end. I love that we're just done trying to save people or help hospital burden. Nope, it's time to learn to live with the virus and it will see our valiant signal and retreat, no doubt.

Yeah, I'd be happy if the province held onto restrictions out of spite at this point. That and waiting for ICU numbers to go down. The NDP's base of support is in areas already solidly in support of mandates/vaccines. The BC Lib leadership are more allied with business elite than the Chudosphere, so I don't see them calling for the end of mandates that are basically allowing capital to chug along just fine. Do any BC goons remember if the BC Libs have been anti-vaxx or lockdown? They feel so irrelevant that I can't even think of their basic position on the pandemic.

I don't think it's ICU numbers that are the problem, they are still fairly low, but it's general hospitalisation rates that are really high right now I feel Christy Clark was more chuddy but the more recent BC Lib leaders (who I cannot even name) have definitely been more on the money-laundering/real estate side of the party. I don't actually recall hearing a peep from them in an age and have no idea of their position
