The internet is buckwild because I feel like it's been really great at almost naturally creating more left-leaning folks through exposure to diverse groups and ideas, and redirecting frustrations to their root causes, but on the other hand it's incredibly great at making anyone socially isolated an easy target for radicalization through the same frustrations.

It probably doesn't help that we have so much of a broader view of things that everything also feels so much more polarizing?

which generation do you think is irreparably brain poisoned now? The generation that voted for Reagan and Thatcher and Bush and Harper? Or is it the generation that voted for Democrats and Liberals when they talked “tough on crime” and promised not to raise taxes?

the ideologies that are considered “extremist” on social media today are in many ways the mainstream of 30 years ago.

The continental divide seems to be curiosity. Some people want to learn about what they don't know, others simply want confirmation that what they believe is correct.

The right wing "intellectuals" don't have a following because they present new information. They have a following because they twist new information to fit the already-established world view of their audience. Once they reach something they can't rationally twist, they lose out to more radical and ridiculous sources, and ultimately become the enemy themselves for presenting reality.

There are ultimately people at the extremes of both the left and right being radicalized in the same manner, but the world view of the right is being rapidly outdated by science and fact, and they have to twist harder and dig deeper to justify it.

I can't tell if this is a new internal schism or like half of them didn't read it before it showed up on the news and then panicked.

The press release is awkwardly written, even by the standards of this group.

quote:

The owner of Advanced Towing & Recovery, who says he supports the protest against all COVID-19 vaccine mandates and public health restrictions, said he was not contacted by police. He was actually contacted by one of the protest organizers, Pat King, to remove the shack after responding to a plea on social media.

"We thought, 'Why not?' We own a company. We can help. We're all with the truckers and we support them 100 per cent," said May.

He and his son moved the shack for free, he says, which meant seven hours of unpaid labour. They received a police escort along the way.

"That's when I started getting all the hate. You know, the phone calls, the texts," said May. "We're talking hundreds of them."

Just hundreds of bad apples.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens had his own warning for demonstrators.

“Blocking the international border crossing will not be tolerated for very long,” he told The Canadian Press in a phone interview. Dilkens said he wanted at least one lane reopened to allow traffic into Canada. The closure is also difficult for local residents, who have expressed their frustration at the situation, he said.

“I, like many, just want to see these people go away, and I’d love to go in there and round them all up and throw them in jail,” Dilkens said. “But that’s not sensible, that’s how I viscerally feel.”

You know how the saying goes, one bad apple radicalizes the bunch.

But wait, so the protest leader hired the tow company to move a protest shack, the tow company, sympathetic to the protestors moved it, then was harassed by protestors?

Was the protest leader also hoping to incite other protestors?

Can't wait to see how all this lifting of restrictions plays out, especially mask mandates. Weather isn't quite hospitable enough for people to just flow outdoors. Also no idea how Fall will look in the end. I love that we're just done trying to save people or help hospital burden. Nope, it's time to learn to live with the virus and it will see our valiant signal and retreat, no doubt.

Yeah, I'd be happy if the province held onto restrictions out of spite at this point. That and waiting for ICU numbers to go down.

The NDP's base of support is in areas already solidly in support of mandates/vaccines. The BC Lib leadership are more allied with business elite than the Chudosphere, so I don't see them calling for the end of mandates that are basically allowing capital to chug along just fine. Do any BC goons remember if the BC Libs have been anti-vaxx or lockdown? They feel so irrelevant that I can't even think of their basic position on the pandemic.

I don't think it's ICU numbers that are the problem, they are still fairly low, but it's general hospitalisation rates that are really high right now

I feel Christy Clark was more chuddy but the more recent BC Lib leaders (who I cannot even name) have definitely been more on the money-laundering/real estate side of the party. I don't actually recall hearing a peep from them in an age and have no idea of their position

Given that several of his MLAs visited the blockade at Coutts, the upcoming leadership review (that he's trying his damnest to game and skew in his favour, of course) and that this isn't his first internal revolt in all but name, I'm not surprised in the least that he's caving. Trouble is that the "truckers" aren't satisfied with that. He's getting desperate, and feeling cornered. Look for further idiocy and active malice in equal measure in the coming days.
