Neito posted:Simple. "Dying of Covid" is a real thing that happens, "Dying with Covid" is a meaningless distinction you drew because your head can be used to rethread needles. Right-wingers actually believe that random other causes of death have been getting misreported as caused by COVID for a variety of conspiracy theory related reasons. Hell, plenty are still genuinely upset that people going to the hospital for some other problem, and then testing positive for COVID, is included in COVID numbers. Because those magically aren't supposed to count as real cases, somehow.

Pope: ACL = Australian Christian Lobby. Government shelves religious freedom bill indefinitely, leaving election promise hanging in uncertainty (ABC). Enough Liberal MPs had crossed the floor in the lower house to amend the bill to add protections for trans students. The ACL said this "completely undermined" the bill and wanted the bill removed rather than passed in this form. The government briefly toyed with the idea of attempting to strip the trans student protection amendment in the Senate but their numbers are worse there (plus also Liberal senators who would cross the floor) so instead they are shelving the bill until after the election. Wilcox: Scott Morrison and opposition leader Anthony Albanese. The politics being played over the religious discrimination bill was to set up a wedge for Labor but the result was Morrison wedging his own side. Rowe: Peter Dutton has plumbed new and dangerous depths by suggesting China is backing Labor (Guardian) Leak, Son of Leak: Victims call for forensic lab inquiry (The Australian, paywalled).

Did Stantis just copypaste the characters next to the wrong speech bubbles and then just left it? Am I paying more attention to his lovely strip than the guy writing it? Have I wasted my life??

Clinton became president after 12 years of Republicans. In those 12 years the right-wing media landscape had been birthed and they immediately jumped on Clinton as this supreme super-villain. So much of the poo poo that started the ball rolling was wildly petty when viewed from today's lens: He was a draft-dodger! He protested the Vietnam war! His wife wasn't a stay-at-home mother! The right-wing talk shows would start with that and then freewheel a bunch of conspiracy theories, and next thing you know there was the "Clinton body count".

Ben Garrison posted:In his book, “Fruit from A Poisonous Tree,” Stamper tells us that the IRS originated not from law, but from trusts associated with conquered territories after the war with Spain. The Philippines, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia were required to pay taxes, not American citizens, yet due to fear and force, Americans complied with the fraud. I can't think of any world where Washington, DC is a conquered territory from Spain, and yet that's exactly what Ben is claiming here. (Also, I thought residents of DC were American citizens...?)

The "death from covid/with covid" distinction talk from right wingers just reminds me of that dude from Chatterbox in GTA 3. The one who was like "Nobody's ever died from being shot by a bullet!
