tbh idk what you'd call nu metal if it's not metal anyway, yeah, I can agree that whatever nu metal is, it sure as hell isn't indie rock (with the exception of certain Deftones tunes lmao)

Venomous posted:tbh idk what you'd call nu metal if it's not metal An alt rock subgenre. Plus Slipknot is certainly on the more metallic end of it than Linkin Park. If you were forged in the fires of internet metal subforums it’s a discussion you’ve seen a million times and basically have the arguments and counter arguments memorized. I used to care more but now I’m like, I’m almost 30 and know what categories of music I like and don’t like, who cares.

I just can't imagine anyone saying "you must hear Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water" before dying. Is that so you know no matter what death holds, it can't be any worse than this world?

So many great metal albums and that list is hilariously pathetic. I'm a very casual metal fan too... Henchman of Santa posted:Many metal fans would also say the other three albums aren’t metal either, but that is not a debate for the indie rock thread. True, but this thread is pretty DIRE most of the time so any music discussion that loosely compares is good, no? The indies having a word on metal and album lists ain't so bad when you get a couple replies a day on average. T Bowl fucked around with this message at 06:43 on Feb 2, 2022 |

Time for Spoon's new album Lucifer on the Sofa today, I'm loving everything I've heard so far but need to give it a full listen through later on. They're continuing the trend of great opening tracks with a Bill Callahan cover this time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E02Afe_G8G4

Spoon are a sneaky band for me, I never really rate them that high or think about them often but they're super dependable in that I can always put on any one of their records and enjoy it quite a bit, then kinda forget about them again. That's gotta be worth something even if they'll never be a favorite of mine. Just a solid band. Meanwhile I'm surprised by how much I like the new Big Thief album cause until now I always wanted to like them more than I actually did. I'm only familiar with their two 2019 records other than this one and I liked them well enough, but this one's grabbed me so much more immediately. It feels more energetic and somewhat looser, and teeming with a lot of life. "Little Things" and "Simulation Swarm" are the ones that instantly stand out to me after two listens.

I'll echo what a lot of people have said in that Spoon are super solid and I'll check out their releases. However I've seen them live twice and uh, I'll stick to throwing them on Spotify every so often. Definitely not a live band.
