You haven’t hosed anything up. Don’t believe the clickbait. Everyone is over complicating stuff for clicks.

You will get plenty of different stones to engrave and plenty of accessories for various affects. I accidentally click the wrong book for an entire stack of chests and it’s no big deal.

Figure out which books you want and focus on those. Do content until you find accessories and stones with the skills you want. That’s it.

You will literally be showered with accessories and stones later and none of this really matter too much until you start getting legendary accessories and by that point you will have a much better sense of how it works.

The only way you actually hosed yourself is if you used like, epic or legendary chests. Which you didn't because there's no way you'd have those.

I'm not sure it's even possible to screw up anything serious if you're just fooling around with the free green engraving stuff the game hands you while leveling. Even the "catastrophe" scenario being worried over here just means you have to farm more, you can't brick anything and you definitely don't need to open your wallet to "fix" it.

Like, ive been using health potions that are a flat hp heal, saving the percentage ones, and not touching anything else because the guides are shock full of "if you use this you will need to grind for 30 hours to replace it"

Also looking for something like this - only just read about the potions by accident.

Islands are probably the quickest way to do it. Some of them reward as many as 10 books.

A lot of people have the impression (which is being reinforced by clickbait streamers) that some of the mechanics are very complicated, pay-to-win, and that there’s a massive grind and limited drops of most things.

That’s really not the case in the western release. Getting a character or multiple character geared up through T1 is really easy and there are a dozen avenues to progress. It definitely gets slower higher up but most people are way over thinking things.

Depends.

If you want to do more CC and follow-up on stagger, do combat readiness and master brawler. You are beefier and can ignore lots of mechanics.

If you want to do big dps and like your lance, go lone knight and grudge.

I have points in most of the above depending on the situation.

yeah, searching for info on ingravings had me thinking I screwed myself, but that isn't the case.

In case anyone still doesn't understand the system it works like this.

You have two types of engravings, class ones and general ones. You get books that you read and you need to read 20 of one engraving to enable it in your character profile (two spots on the bottom left) for tier 1. In order to get the engraving bonuses, you need to have the first five (I believe) nodes active for tier one. You get three nodes from the engraving and then you need something with two more nodes that are the same type as the active engraving. So you can either use an item with 2 engraving nodes (like a necklace or ring) or facet a stone with your engraving type on it. That's what those stones you faceted in the castle area do besides their main affects, is add nodes to your engravings.

Someone tell me if I am wrong here, but I think i have it mostly figured out.

I have no clue what the game gremlins are working on in the background but yes, it does seem to take several minutes to boot up after the EAC banner disappears.

My bet is the anti-cheat sucks poo poo and is doing some kind of audit every time the game boots up.

Yeah EAC is not all that great, uses tons of resources, spys on everything, and still is able to be bypassed.

Grudge and cursed doll are universal good options for every damage dealer.
Engravings are shared roster-wide so they're a good pick if you plan to roll alts. They're also the most expensive in the game if you want to buy them on the auction house instead of getting them from selector chests.

But the first thing you need to decide is whether you want to do "blue build" focusing on the blue-icon shield skills or the "red build" focusing on the red-icon lance skills. Gunlancer has two class engravings that each buff up one of the playstyles: Lone Knight for red Gunlancer or Combat Readiness for blue.
The two guides on maxroll.gg suggest Super Charge for red build and Barricade for blue build as cheap + effective starter engravings. They'll probably be much cheaper to trade for than grudge / cursed doll.

It depends on your class and build, but it can. Later on your builds will reduce ability cooldowns and speed up cast times a lot, at which point mana can actually become a factor.

I would argue that Grudge is actually terrible for most people right now, because most people are insanely bad at the game, at this moment. Grudge gets better as the player gets better, by design. It's basically for farm content imo.

It's definitely true that under the right circumstances it's amazing, which is why a lot of the guides about the game in general hype it up. I don't think the player base is really there yet though.

From my understanding yes, it was originally far more bear-rear end collecty and you may have even had to grind monsters for XP. That's why they give like 1 experience point when you kill them, it's vestigial functionality from a much shittier game.
Everything used to frequently give 1 credit. Look at the quest objectives sometime, you kill one mob and get 4-12 credits. You carry one barrel and get 5. You used to have run back and forth slinging barrels and crates many times. It was pointless.

Yeah my Artillerist gets -20% damage taken from their class engraving, so that would balance out Grudge's +20% damage taken, but I don't think it's worth for only Rank 1 Grudge, which would only give me a measly 4% damage for the tradeoff. Rank 3 Grudge is much more reasonable at +20% boss damage but I don't think I'm going to have the gear to hit rank 3 in any engraving for quite some time.
