Real hurthling! posted:birthrates fall on their own via other means that are more positive for society and less incendiary than like enforcing sterilization on couples that wont comply with your policy or whatever stick you would have to come up with. Jordan Peterson made this point on solving climate change. Birthrates fall as wealth increases so using capitalism to lift all of the third world to middle class standards would cause their birth rates to fall and self correct emissions from over population. Just ignoring the big elephant that wealthier people emit vastly more than third worlders. I think the most positive way of reducing emissions from population would be to stop the top 1% polluting so much. Reduce the demand for megayachts and private jets by reducing the rich. Whether by finger snapping them away, or their wealth.

I don't think condoms and Planned Parenthood cause that much pollution. Look at the Philippines for an example of OP's point.

I just watched a sponsored video on FB titled "No one expected these humongous waves!!!!!!" which was just filled with beachside properties and people walking on quaysides(?) and umbrella laden lounging areas getting wrecked by the seas...and it has the most delightful jingle behind it. Haha. What a whimsical world this can be. Devastation to behold. Click like and subscribe.

That screenshot makes her look like one of those this person does not exist generated people. I think it's the teeth. And the cold dead eyes long bereft of a soul or anything resembling humanity. Just glass orbs staring out at a teleprompter and reading vile words without reflection or interpretation. Seeding the already enraged minds with a new flavour of hate that will tide them over for a day or two. Probably the teeth and the slight artifacting.

skooma512 posted:Birthrates fall when your society becomes more wealthy, but being wealthy necessarily results in more carbon emissios. if we could give everyone free single family dwelling housing, 3-day work weeks, universal child and health care, living ubi, birth rates would absolutely go up. and we should do those things (we won't). therefore saying that society wealth = lower birthrates isn't correct. it's increasing unequal immiseration under alienated capitalistic societies that also relies on education as a backbone for good little productive bees.

case in point: that’s basically what happened in post war America. immense wealth flowing in, free bountiful housing, little want or worry about education or health care, and rates exploded and rates didn’t decline until capitalism started to claw back profits to the elite and started sucking the wealth out of society also case in point, idiot hellfucker libs like to say the ‘bill and Melinda gates ngos are great see we gave them education and modern medicine and women rights and condoms and birth rates fell in 3rd countries. just give them more condoms and medicine bing bong. we just haven’t given them enough yet!’. no bitch, it’s that we exported them neoliberalism and capital desthdrive brain and fragments of our culture

Xaris posted:this is kinda wrong. there are elements, yes, but the primary driver of falling birth rates is massive starkly visible inequalities under capitalism with generally massive hopeless class that are also academically educated enough to realize their stature and given into a work-to-live fiat grindy life that needs more and more work each year in perpetual stagnantion-to-decline I think I can agree with this, that modern development can explain why birth rates fall but this isn't sufficient to explain why birth rates are below replacement rates in advanced economies. It seems like the constantly growing requirement for parents to work to financially support their children is what pushes fertility below replacement levels. This is also why the rich have consistently high birthrates above replacement levels, because they can afford to pay people to do domestic labour for them and look after their children. It also explains why fertility is below the rate that parents claim to prefer, lots of people would like to have more children but they can't afford more. Basically, capitalism is carrying out an implicit and unstated eugenics policy based on class status. But wouldn't this predict that a socialised economy would have a growing population (not accounting for migration), and would consequently have rising emissions unless they also had economic degrowth at the same time?
