Has anyone had any luck with multiplayer campaigns? Trying to connect to a friend's game via code just gives a "no response from host" error, and if I try to connect via the lobby browser, I get "an unspecified error has occurred".

This is on gamepass so it's probably 50-50 odds on whether it's a multiplayer issue, or xbox live being terrible.

Jesus this game runs so awful. Sitting around the recommended settings i have been in the first tutorial battle for over an hour

E: I just got my ability and three seconds pass for each one that the timer goes down.

I mean this in the best possible way - the game is no longer just a battle simulator, but a fun video game experience.

I'm vibing with nurgle. His auto resolve is pretty annoying but the micro once you're in fights isn't demanding at all so it ends up being less annoying than Tzeentch. Nurglings and plaguebearers sure can take a beating. I don't understand what's going on with his cycle buildings at all though, all of his red buildings seem the same. What's going on with those?

I don't know poo poo but I think Nurgle can't recruit troops in the normal manner. Instead, troops get added to the summon pool each time one of your buildings reaches a new phase, which happens every few turns. High cycle levels give you better versions of the troop type, like exalted plaguebearers instead of normal ones.

Something I noticed from past games is that if the game seemed to be stuttering but I was still able to smoothly pan the camera during battles then it usually meant either my cpu couldn't keep up or the game engine couldn't handle what was going on (like having tons of units try to squeeze through a single gate in 3k).

The game is running fine for me with a Geforce 960 but I wanged my inner ear and have constant vertigo so can't play for more than 15 mins or so at a time.

If you can get it OTC, cinnarazine might help with that, I take it when I get an ear infection and it suppresses the dizziness, used for seasickness.

Yep. Happened to me in the tutorial as well. Only played that and no proper campaigns yet.

I wish this ran as good on my machine as wh2 did but I'm assuming a lot of it might just be optimization + I haven't updated my driver's yet.

Mini campaign is good but the colors feel very washed out to me, textures too. Also I get a weird pixel ghosting trail on some units and I don't know if it's intentional or not.

Caught between tzeench and slaanesh. Which would be better for diplomatic fuckery? Also both are different from my normal playstyle so I'm a little intimidated.

As Katarin, starting at war with Kislev enemies that gives you a huge supporter penalty every time you fight them while also having a quest to beat Kostaltyn to 50 supporters is rough.

But hey I have Praag and Kislev under control now at least!

I kind of like the single huge city province and 4x minor oblast province dynamic.

Size does matter, after all.
After a tense neck-and-neck supporter race I was ten turns away from Kostaltin fessing up that he made a huge mistake and coming crawling back. But then the demons at him.

Was a bit anticlimactic :/

So is the seer playing all the factions off against each other or is each campaign start a parallel universe type deal? Because lol at him being dumb enough to risk asking Skarbrand for help when he could of gone to literally anyone else and had a better chance of keeping his skull.

I'm not enjoying this as much as I thought I would. The new changes and mechanics are all great, but the game isn't getting me interested the way WH1 and 2 did. I think it's because the new factions, which are fine, just aren't as interesting to me as the base factions for other games were. I got about 75 turns in to a Kislev and then a Cathay campaign today and ended up deciding I didn't want to finish either. All the other campaigns I stopped even quicker, around 25-30 for most of them. I do think the game is great, and it's a huge improvement on the series, but the factions available right now just aren't clicking for me.

The pixel ghosting I think is caused by TAA, I switched to FXAA and it went away, also got a little performance boost at the expense of slightly more jaggies. Seems like performance and crashes are being worked on for the first update, hopefully it doesn't take too long.

Nah, minor settlement battles are a huge disappointment. Pathfinding is rear end, AI has perfect micro, its impossible to tell what is going on, too much micro required, and boring grindy slogfests for every single one. I dislike it so much I might refund because the game is not worth $60.

edit: I know I sound pretty negative, and I bought the game because of the diplomacy improvements and other QoL things they did, and because I like the look of some of the new rosters. But None of that matters if the majority of my battles are going to be minor settlement battles and I actively despise them. They're just too tedious for me. If you dont mind them then you'll probably like the game.

edit2: Also the Autoresolve changes are really damning and poorly thought out. Someone at CA thinks that more tedium is more fun. They made autoresolve worse for the player the harder the campaign difficulty "to encourage players to fight more battles" but I use autoresolve to get out of fighting tedious battles I dont want to fight; battles that I'd rather just play a different game instead of fight. Sooooo now I have to fight every battle? I'd rather just not spend my money on a product that changed things in a dumb and poorly thought out way.

Just had my first CTD, after I used the new bombardment ability on a unit positioned on a platform. That bombardment ability needs a rework as well, it's very temperamental on what it can be used on.

Overall the game has been fun but it's TW:W, course it was going to be.

My biggest complaint so far is that I'm not really that fond of the new siege maps. Seems like quite a few of them weren't tested with moving your camera around them for lengthy periods of time (looking at you Dwarf and Skaven maps).

Plus some of the Ogre siege maps are a bit bizarre in that they don't feel designed for Ogre size units, if that makes sense?

Edit: Also these new siege maps are just way too big, to the point of being gameplay problematic. I've won too many sieges now I probably had no right winning by just beelining a cav to the victory point, which isn't exactly a new problem in TW games but the last time I remember it being an issue was in Attila.

I'm enjoying it, but I think I haven't really clicked with minor settlement battles. You really need to approach objectives from multiple angles cause it feels like if you just try to go in one way you get all boxed up and the enemy just clumps in there too. I'm not really that big on that sort of play but you can just auto-resolve as you run over it. I haven't done any of the big survival battles yet but that's mostly just been cause they take a while I'm told and my free time is kinda limited right now, I figure I'll run on into it when I've got time to spare.

Uuuuuuh

It's not bad but the battles don't control nearly as well as 2 (which I was just playing last night) and the battle AI is a lot worse, broken even. enemy units just walking back and forth aimlessly in a circle kinda thing.

CA have come a long way but one of their traits has always been accidentally double downing on issues and the decision to turn every minor settlement fight into an even lengthier seige is a very funny response to there being too many boring seige battles in warham2

E I always buy total wars so I don't regret it at all, but if you aren't that kinda fan I'd... Well I'd just get it on gamepass is the good thing, it's worth a play but will definitely be better in a few months

Restarted as cathay and I think I like them more than kislev, the ying yang stuff is interesting cos it makes units that otherwise might be a bit meh, quite good if you position them properly. I think I am going to want some sky lanterns just so they can buff my melee infantry.
