I'm coming at this in the context of school fights, where at least where I went all parties who did anything other than run or get beat on were on paper treated as aggressors even if one person was cornered and trying to fight their way to safety, or fought back to avoid turning their back on someone actively attacking them who they knew could run faster. But telling kids to "finish" fights is hosed up. Most of that talk IME typically comes from childless people who got bullied and are overcompensating. Well I really don't like that fights involving two minors in school gets spread around for the amusement of adults. I understand in many cases a kid can boil over after tons of abuse, or it's a self-defense situation. But we don't have any context to what leads up to a 30 second viral fight video. Doesn't stop the body language experts in the OP and comments from making a narrative out of whole cloth. Reddit especially has a boner for justifying women getting hit back harder by much stronger men. It's always a feeding frenzy in the comments with stuff like "bitch deserved it"

I agree, and also Grandpa Simpson had it right. Bullies aren't cowards. Physical bullies are stronger and used to light violence, and know they will win. Social bullies are more charismatic and intimidating, and know that the room will side with them. Kids can't ~finish the fight~ in most cases, and grown adults who pretend otherwise are indulging in combo revenge fantasy and victim blaming so they don't have to feel upset.

It's such a stupid loving platform. I've actually been able to do some cool poo poo with it locally and get stuff done and help people, and be helped as well, but you have to move fast to get around the mods who will never, ever allow any community control or oversight. Just a dumb little clique. Like you get a few racists in charge of a sub, and it's hosed. No more talking about anything related to that. At least in the traditional format here we can be like hey admins, BlackStomper1488 is surprisingly kind of a piece of poo poo, could they maybe not be a mod? And you can get some traction. There is no way to unfuck a hosed sub unless you actually start hurting the owning corpos money, and then generally, it will just be killed, not fixed. Easier. I think it's doomed, but there is nowhere else to go. gently caress twitter, gently caress insta, gently caress FB, gently caress reddit. I ain't playing with that poo poo. And it's a hard sell for everyone to spend  and not get to be a shithead without being called out on it, and learn the old ways of posting.

I find it strange that the so called social media companies appear to actively make it difficult to have a conversation. I've been fairly active in a few facebook groups and subreddits related to my hobby and the amount of actual interaction other than "give me internet points" is about an order of magnitude less than a literal dead gay forum here. There was a dog attack death at the rescue around the corner from me this morning, so of course all the ban pitbull types (despite the fact it wasn’t a pitbull but they’ve convinced themselves it was) are brigading the local sub and being an absolute delight. Zero surprise they’re all gun nuts and libertarians, because they’re just bloodlusting assholes who don’t care one bit about the person who died.

It’s a stigma that moves between breeds as years go by. Back in the UK, it used to be Rottweilers that were apparently eating babies at every opportunity, but ever since the pitbull craze I’ve not heard anyone care in years. And yes, I’m not surprised in the slightest there’s a racial tinge to it and hadn’t really considered that despite it always being behind every lovely Reddit opinion.

Of course, the r/BanPitBulls posters never seem to mention that a dog with testicles is 30 times more likely to fatally attack someone than a neutered male or any female, so if there's a genetic predisposition to violence it should be r/BanDogBalls.

Social media companies aren't there to facilitate conversation, they're there to organize captured advertising demographics, that they then get paid to let people advertise at. Or collect the personal information of their users, but it amounts to the same thing. Actual conversations would run contrary to this, as individuals who have good conversations together might also do so off of the platform, and then nobody wins.
