*reads comment section* wait y'all sat these are manually reviewed? *checks* okay so they are well it was a fun one, cool comic about apotheosis and the creation of myth, shame it also had to go, you know, here comic content aside you can't tolerate this where minors are portrayed. it's especially weird that the creator is allowing it on his own site

I’m not as aghast by all this as some, but between this and the recent nonsense with Shell I have to wonder what the gently caress this comic thinks it’s doing it’s not like romance and physical attraction haven’t been touched on before. they were brief but fine. Paz and Kat were fine. Zimmy and Gamma were unnerving but fine. now we get one girl with a fivehead who’s permanently face-faulting over a tiny bald man and a buxom robot girl who thinks showing off her tits is empowering. it’s puerile Oxxidation fucked around with this message at 16:10 on Feb 17, 2022 |

A big flaming stink posted:The "Problem" is when that story is told via an underaged exhibitionist There's absolutely zero reason to frame it as a gang of immigrants sexually assaulting a naive, sexualized teenage girl in an alley. And yet that's what is happening in the last two pages. There were so many other ways to set this up, but the author opted to go with this one. Why?

Snake Maze posted:It's not capital P Problematic to tell a story about robots that has characters within the story question or grapple with the 'realness' of the robots. It's worth noting that the read of "robo-humans are trans people" has a bit more ammo than just "they're robots". Arguably it started with Arthur, with him wanting a new body for his relationship with Juliette to feel more natural. But I feel like most people started noticing it with She Gave Us An Ocean. The robots not only get to choose the body they want / feel most comfortable in, but also it's shown that Robot, who had previously been coded male, had assumed a female avatar. It also hinted that it was the body that Robot wanted, giving the impression they wanted to transition from a male-coded body into a female one. It would have been very easy for Tom to draw a male angel in that chapter to help avoid that association - and I feel if Tom did NOT want to draw those parallels, he probably would have defaulted to a male avatar for the male-coded robot anyways. Aside from Robot though, the page where Lana teased earlier can easily be read as reinforcing the comparison. "Not used to your [new] body yet?" is pretty obvious, but also her being very proud of the body she "spent a long time getting right" and that she chose for herself. As others have said, it's fully possible that Tom is naively unaware of the comparison he's made. If that's the case though, he really has no escuse - it's been two years since She Gave Us An Ocean started, he's had plenty of time to see that people have drawn this comparison. There's definitely parallels for some of them but if anything I always felt like the court/forest transfers (the animals and fairies who become human, and the humans who become birds or whatever) were the much closer metaphor. Most of the robots don't seem to have any particular dissatisfaction with their old bodies and are going along more out of the almost religious respect they have for Kat - like, the pipe robot in She Gave Us An Ocean wasn't pining to be human, he was happy to be minding the pipes and would have been happy to go back to minding the pipes like before if that was how things went.

Yeah I actually do agree it's not a perfect comparison. That being said, the fact remains that the comparison has been made for two years now, so either Tom doesn't know about it or doesn't care based on the current portrayal.

i don't 100% agree with some of the takes on this strip but i absolutely am bothered by the approval of some of those comments. if Tom has a moderator approving comments, he should probably replace that moderator. there's no excuse for approving a gangbang comment, like seriously what the gently caress. where i sit on the strip is.. obviously this is an all-ages comic and it's not actually going to go down a horrible route, but i get why it makes people uncomfortable. having it sit there for 48 hours without an update following it i think makes it feel worse because there's no resolution so you're just left hanging until friday. this is not a "you'll be ashamed of your words and deeds" thing, i just mean that the suspense created by stopping here (which most likely will be resolved in a tame way tomorrow) just leaves you with unease

K6BD and Sleepless Domain are great, I also recommend Bybloemen, a comic in the style of block woodcuts about two devils getting involved in the Dutch tulip trade. It's been funny and clever so far, and the art is gorgeous.

… well, there’s really no other way to read this page where she gets grabbed while looking confused as the other boys in the panel lurk as ominous shadows surrounding her until she’s rescued. Without even touching on the lower class cultural coding addition here. God this really is “girl nearly gets sexually assaulted for male character’s character development,” isn’t it? I was holding out some sliver of hope that’s gone now. I was excited to see Annie declaring they needed to do things themselves as a return to her having more agency in the narrative to… this. I think between this and the tweet art about her taking off her pants and the approved gangbang/lewd/etc. comments, I’m out folks. I’ve been reading since the football head days and even own one of the volumes but this is just not cool.

Like, I get what he is going for - he wants to show that the robots are far too innocent and naive to safely interact with the outside world without supervision (and how Kat & co. are really underestimating the extent of responsibility they have for them), but man there are like thousands better ways to convey it than this.
