Fan art is weird

No matter what the artist thinks they're conveying, all of it is the exact same value as an airbrushed tweety bird on an oversized tshirt in a kiosk at the mall

Come now it's not that bad, we have moved on to the character knowing that he did something bad but the player needing to interpet heavy-handed symbolism to try and figure out what he even did.

gently caress you, layers of fear, your game was obvious from the start and one cool ending shot doesn't save that.

I might be old, but using your artistic skills to suck off or meme the gently caress out of some product you are consuming will never not be the lamest use of your own talent. Not to mention it often undermines the intent of the original creators and fucks up whatever they were trying to do for everyone, because the initial concept becomes a joke.

For something more recent just look at the big lady from RE8. Some 10 foot tall old timey lady with giant claws chasing you around, ducking under normal sized doors was actually a pretty great horror concept. By the time the game came out it was impossible to even look at as horror because of all the memes and fanart. it all felt like some comical character. If I hadn't read a bunch of stupid poo poo on the internet I feel like I could have appreciated it so much more.

Pyramid Head was the creepiest poo poo when that game came out and now he's just straight up comedy because everyone decided to do their own thing with it. It's fine. I'm not trying to "stop" fan art or whatever, because it would be totally futile, but I do think people should try to make their own ideas instead of bandwagoning other peoples ideas

That's not even taking into account that half of it is just people trying to make their cartoons easier to masturbate to. Fan art blows.

That opinion might be valid if the person only or mainly does fan art, but a lot of the time its just an artist messing around. They don't really attribute any higher meaning it. I'm betting the pyramid head guy is probably more upset that Konami is willing to run Pyramid Head into the ground. (They may be even trying to make a loving NFT of him).

Like most of its brothers there is definitely a "runtime buffer" in the later levels. They don't do the thing of going to the underground lab but the machine level is three times longer than any of the other levels.

It's something of a drawback of allowing people to upgrade weapons and horde ammo, eventually you end up with a bottom half where you need a lot more miniboss fights to justify the effort.

I thought the structure worked pretty well, sandwich two shorter sequences between the first longer one where you're generally weaker, and the later longer one where you've become a walking arsenal.

The same could be said of 7 though, but at least that one didn't start sliding until the choice on the dock.

I avoided the LD memes because when there's media I actually want to indulge in I like to go in as "fresh" as possible, so that usually means avoiding trailers as well (unless they play at the start of a movie, that's a bit different) and I loved 7. I only started playing 8 recently; having just finished up the LD section, she was OK as an antagonist, but the daughters were as cookie-cutter and bland as evil characters could be, and LD's final form was RE6-levels of "overstuffed and overdone and not scary." Bloodborne is still the reigning champ of "it's scary to just look at it" monster design, and that's unfortunate considering this series gave us Lisa in REmake, who was as good a contender for that title as ANYTHING in Bloodborne (yeah, I said it). Hell, even Condemned had scarier regular enemies.

And for the life of me I can't fathom why LD went viral the way she did; the only thing I can think of is because she's rather unique as far as a monster concept goes? Is gigantism really that much of a thing?

They featured her heavily in the initial marketing and doubled down on it after the, uh, internet response. They knew what they were doing.

For me, I hate linear “run and hide from the bad guy” segments because they drag down subsequent playthroughs so much. RE 2 had this with the Sherry part. House Benviento is super cool the first time and then totally sucks rear end every other time I want to run through the game collecting treasure and upgrading poo poo.

It's not that hard to understand. There are lots of people who are very vocal about how horny they are and every so many years another design gets uplifted to basically internet meme status. Lady Dimitrescu was just the most recent one. Remember when it was Lara Croft and it got to the point that they included nude cheats that just made her explode?

It's a cycle and it's been going on probably since humans existed. Lotta loud people just trying to let everyone know they are horny and what they are horny about. Whether we want to hear them or not.

Back in the day, hearing about some mythical 'nude tomb raider' cheat that definitely worked, or some 'mos' that certainly wasn't just a virus or something.

Kids these days just have 3d model artists making porn with assets from the game itself, they don't know what it was like walking uphill through the snow to get a pixelated nipple texture or something.
