HD-2D is ideal for remaking the SNES games that were never localized. Live a Live looks stunning in that style. HD-2D seems to bring more attention than a translated port of the original.

It would be great if Square-Enix remakes Terranigma & Treasures of the Rudras.

It's pretty insane that these games are finally being ported to American shores.

If only the Genesis catalog can go the same route.

People were outright mocking it. Unfortunately 2D games still have that "budget" taint attached to it.

I have a better win rate in invictus than in normal mode. I dont know that its true that all the serious players are there, if I get to the top 10 i can just play endurance and the other players lose to the speed of the blocks. To win normal mode you have to actually knock out the other top player, which can be harder. Also, while the players in invictus might be better, they are also more conservative and predictable, like they're all playing to not lose. In normal mode players can be much more aggressive, so sometimes I lose early to a kind of wild shot that doesnt happen in invictus. Also there are fewer players in invictus, so games rarely fill. And average invictus game is 29 other players and 69 bots, compared to 98 humans in tetris 99.

I'm referring to commercially. The game bombed during the original DS release. Selling less than 90,000 copies in two weeks: https://www.gamespot.com/articles/chinatown-wars-sells-under-90000-units-in-march/1100-6208111/

This led to the game being sold for near or at half price one month after release: https://web.archive.org/web/20090806092703/http://www.gamespot.com/news/6208747.html

This led industry analysts (especially Michael Patcher) to claim "I guess mature games don't sell on Nintendo casual systems. :smuggo:"

The game was released on the PSP a couple months later and was somehow an even bigger bomb. Failing to chart anywhere.

The consensus, rightly or wrongly, became "2D GTA's don't sell".

Hopefully but I would also be 100% down for a Chrono Trigger remake done in the style of the Trials of Mana remake.

The art style would work well but I'm sure a lot of people would not want a switch from turn based combat.
I'd personally prefer a ToM-style full remake for CT over an Octopath-style remake/remaster. Hell, I'd prefer they did a Pixel Remaster style thing or just a straight release of the Steam or SNES versions of the game instead of the "HD-2D" or whatever the gently caress they're calling that style because I'm honestly not big on the overly filtered Octopath visuals.

I'd still buy it if they released it that way, but I'd prefer one of the other two.

GTA was a successful series before 3. It just reached insane new heights in the third entry due to entering the third dimension.

Think of it like "The Witcher" series. The first two sold respectfully, but the third entry had the series become a titan of gaming.

Ugh really? I haven't tried the demo yet but it's such a dumb name. Octopath Traveller at least made some sense, this is just bland and dumb.

---

Started Disco Elysium last night and Wooh boy, I am going to like this game. Please tell me that the beginning (I literally only just got Kim to follow me around) is not a high point and that it only gets better from here because I am up for it!

I don't usually care for Voic-overs especially when I can read the dialogue faster, but much like Hades it's so good here I'm listening to every word. I already want to restart the beginning to try different options (I won't, but I know I'll do it one day).

---

The Warlock of Firetop Mountain continues to be good and it is on sale to the 28th. It's fun but I guess you're encouraged to just constantly fight if you actually want to do anything, which is OK. The combat isn't anything clever but I think I would've enjoyed a bit more variety in options of activities. Still it's a charming little thing for 3 bucks. Unbelievable loading times though.
