Going to lodge a complaint that the birds shown should be those actually in Washington state. There were at least four in that video that aren’t seen in WA.

Gonna cross post this here even though it's not really in the spirit of the thread so apologies. Apparently there is a bog decrease in bugs in the US but the the loving birds are in full force here in NE FLorida because they treat my car like Jackson Pollock painting with their bird making GBS threads ways. Jesus Christ there's no end to it and I have NEVER seen this happen here before in over 15 years living here. Bird poo poo has never been more than a minor inconvenience but this seems to be war. Maybe they're all looking further south for more bugs to eat? Some sort of climate change related migration pattern? It's really loving odd and way out of hand. My credit card bill for pressure washing my car this month was like 30 loving bucks. I wised up and put some covers on my car but often the wind will peel a portion of them back and it's like a perfect triangular shape of a bird poo poo pizza slice wherever it gets exposed. I left it uncovered for like 2 or 3 hours yesterday to see if it would subside and it was unholy how much bird poo poo there was on it. Hitchcok-ian, except I don't HEAR or SEE a lot of birds. Invisible birds with IBS and an extreme grudge against my car have invaded Florida and are carpet bombing my driveway. I haven't really read the thread but does anyone know why it might like this and so different this year? TL/DR: Bugs are apparently dying in droves but birds seem plentiful and are totally full of poo poo.

Kidding aside, I'm seriously wondering why this winter is SO markedly different this year and figured this would be as good a place to ask as any. Highly Pathogenic Avian influenza might be a factor. One of the symptoms is diarrhea and it’s been found in birds in Florida.

Joburg posted:Highly Pathogenic Avian influenza might be a factor. One of the symptoms is diarrhea and it’s been found in birds in Florida. That checks out. It's happened before once or twice but was always an isolated thing where a whole flock would set up in the trees for a little while, poo poo and then leave. Thing was, I could hear them and see them. I don't hear or see any more birds than normal. Maybe it's just one bird with an ax to grind.

Years ago a Northern Flicker decided that his own reflection in the neighbors car mirrors was his rival for territory. He would poo poo all over the car in a fury then display aggressively at his reflection. He did that for about 2 months that year. Good luck with your car.

I have some content for one of my favorite threads, though. 1) an iggle e: this is confirmed to be a golden eagle, the one baldie we had was very clearly identifiable but also not easy to photograph on the other side of the lake. 2) snow geese from Delta, Utah. Cross posted in the Backyard chickens thread. There is a proposed rule change to the animal welfare act (USA) with new regulations for birds and the public comment period is open. I haven’t finished reading the whole thing so I don’t have any comments to make yet but have a looksee for yourself. I hope it has some better standards for the care of those poor Frankenstein chickens and industrial egg layers… https://www.federalregister.gov/doc...mal-welfare-act
