Anybody else having a problem stealing from the green soldiers in South Figaro in Locke's scenario? The game just keeps telling me "Can't steal!" even if I put it on autobattle and IIRC that's supposed to be a guaranteed steal.

Also I'm getting some screen tearing on both my laptop and desktop with all the PRs and some emulation as well, any idea how to fix that?

Oh my God, I love how King Crimson-ified Dancing Mad has wound up. It was always the intention on the SNES, but they absolutely nailed the sound with this recording.

Worth every penny just for the soundtrack.

Never mind, complaining on the Internet wins again. Either that or saving and restarting the game.

Man, just like FF5 I am running into some pretty awful bugs on FF6PR. The counter from Black Belt will occasionally eat someones ATB bar (that was in FF5 as well), and occasionally on auto battle if Gau or Mog are using a dance/rage at the same time someone else's ATB is full the OTHER character will use the dance or rage, and normally that just locks up the game.

Was funny seeing Terra dance though.

On the plus side, putting Setzer on auto makes Slots almost always roll something.

Sabin has absolutely no interest in women. Him, Strago, and Gau are really the only ones who wouldn't be incredibly lovely people in real life, and one of them is a literal feral child.

Cyan: catfisher, but crying inside the whole time, possibly motivated by the ghosts of the three stooges

Jesus Tapdancing CHRIST I am loving the FF6 Pixel Remaster! The music is gorgeous, the visual improvements are tastefully restrained, and the on-screen Dpad isn't too obnoxious. Tapping a destination to move to it absolutely is, though - can only accidentally change lead character so many times trying to go through a door before it gets old.

Thx for the pro tip on clearing out Mog's mythril spear and shield (and thus swapping Edgar's mythril sword to Terra) early on.

So far playing on mobile has been the opposite of all my worries, with the exceptions of the subpar font and excluded GBA content.

16 bit? Back when we was kids we only got a single bit on Christmas, as a treat
And we had to share it!
still, it's nice not having the all the character sprites constrained to the same rectangle, like they have to make the old SNES get the most out of the 3MB of ROM they allotted it
Little details here and there are now more legible like Edgar’s emotes and Gestahl raising his arms.
Increased color palette means details like the collar on Kefka’s jacket is prominent - “Why’s he dressed like a clown? Oh emperor Gestahl’s head mage - more of a fabulous weirdo wizard.”

Playing FF V and VI right after the other, SO many cutscenes. None of that comes for free - it all has to be recreated, movement by movement.

You see weirdness in places. When Edgar is escaping castle Figaro on chocobo, one of the birds is moving smoothly while the other two are kinda jittering along. Whatever scripting system they set up to deliver these games was never meant for this.
When the credits on the original game rolled you see a few people labeled as “Event Planner” which I’m realizing now is a cutscene designer
making even a classic rpg on par with FF6 must be real heavy ask for a small indie studio

FFVI was one of the remasters I was most interested in seeing, because it's perhaps the sprite FF game that struggled the most with its visual limitations in ways like this, or through every single character sprite having to share four different palettes.

Possibly, one of the caveats is supposed to be the battle lasting half a minute, which seems unlikely in those circumstances iirc.

If you want Celes to sound like she can actually sing for the opera scene, switch to Italian, I guess?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1TQOdBsYdI

This version strikes a much better balance than the English one I think. She still doesn't sound like a professional opera singer on most notes but she does sound like she has an uncommonly good singing voice and puts a lot of emotion into the performance.

I gotta admit, hearing the opera scene like this is surreal in all the good ways.

Although I don't really have the ears to judge, I think the Impresario could sell Italian Celes' performance as Maria catching a cold five minutes before the show.

I always thought we were supposed to use our imaginations and assume she uses one of the custom commands to help wipe out large swathes. You can shoot death lasers as any old random smuck but only a Magitek Elite can suck people into a black hole.

The implication seems to be she somehow boosts the power of the Magitek whuch is why hers is tricked the gently caress out.

That's how I always saw it, if Magitek is a mech suit powered by extracted magic then a pilot who can actually use magic would probably supercharge the dang thing.

Uh... Kupo?

Or kefka gave her a better magitek armor and he doesn't give a gently caress about normal soldiers, and knows that she can cause the most damage. Also, importantly, the soldiers wouldn't be able to overcome her if it came right down to it because she's kind of his "pet".

And, as proof of the slave crown's dominance, there's no playing with her target or showing mercy at the last minute. Just quick, cold murder... with a fire beam.

Almost begs the question why Kefka didn't have a second slave crown on hand for the Magitek Factory scenario. Maybe there's a planning document somewhere for a "party vs itself" fight?

I always figured she’d realized she was a pawn of the empire and attempted an escape at some early point, and fried those 50 magitek armors in the attempt. Afterwards Kefka put the slave crown on her and used her in a military campaign of some sort, say against Doma which is that scene with Terra blowing the soldiers away with Kefka.
After some time the Empire uses her for the mission in Narshe, which is where the game starts.

…. Of course as a kid I would have wanted all of the back story to be filled in like it was Lord of the Rings.
But, now, I’m realizing that this is the first time the people at Square have attempted to tell a story this large, if it doesn’t work out, oh well. just ride the vibe and don’t ask too many questions (ditto for FF7 and 8  )

E:
There is that bit about how the writers of FF IV came up with a story that was three times what could be fit into a game and what we got was a condensed version of that.
It could be that the same thing happened for FF6; a big coherent story bible was written but what makes into the game is another matter altogether,

Yeah, Terra’s backstory alone seems like it’d be ripe for expanding on, like we know she was abducted as a baby, and then relatively recently had the slave crown put on her to obliterate her memories, but there’s like a 16-17 year gap that could be her locked in a small room all the time, her being groomed as a living weapon and having the crown put on after refusing, etc.

Scholars are some of the most pompous and pedantic people I've ever had the joy of meeting.
FF6PR really needs to run at a higher frame rate because it really looks stilted and off when trying to scroll the screen. Or maybe it's just weird lag at times but in general when stuff moves it doesn't look as smooth as older versions. OTOH this might be due to playing those on emulators that handle it better.

Shadow knows he'd be an absolutely terrible parent and leaves his kid with someone he knows will do a better job raising her. That alone makes him a better parent than most people.

I don't think Sabin has no interest in woman at all, if you talk to the Dancer in South Figaro Sabin mentions how his ascetic lifestyle and training is why he's not bothered by her behavior while it has Cyan freaking out and acting like a prude. So it's less "he just doesn't care for women" and more "he doesn't get flustered like Cyan when a woman is laying it on thick."

Autobattle is absolutely not a guaranteed steal even with the thief bracer. I think the first merchant took 6 or 7 attempts to steal their stuff. I forgot to fight a Heavy Armor though so I couldn't learn it as a Rage on Gau but that doesn't matter because Gau still comes with Brawler (or whatever it's called now) as one of his starting Rages and that can still do 2000+ damage with Stone even on a level 10 Gau. :black101:
