I can accept that attempting to split Ukraine in half and installing a Russian puppet is Putin's likely plan, and he can definitely capture the capital and put a puppet "in charge" but the obvious next question is "And then what?", and I don't think Putin has a good answer for that. He's been attacking Ukraine for 8 years, then put out a ridiculous nonsense rant about how Ukraine isn't real, rolled in with tanks and bombs, and then asks Ukrainian soldiers to turn on the Ukrainian government. Then he's expecting to quickly pop in an obvious puppet and he thinks that the people will just smile and nod and leave the puppet in place? That's nuts. That puppet isn't going to have enough support from the people to enforce his will, so the Russian troops would have to stay, and that means a long and bloody occupation because you can't pacify 22 million very angry people with 200,000 troops. Sheer lunacy.

That's overstating things quite a lot. They sank one trawler and damaged a half-dozen others, as well as shooting a couple of their own ships. Efficiently slaughtering a fishing fleet was kind of beyond their gunnery and coordination capabilities.

Tankers have a long and storied history of doing pretty much anything to make their vehicles more survivable. Sometimes it has some niche advantages, more often it just adds weight and additional garbage to the vehicle. I assume nobody ever cracks down on it because they reckon the tankers will fight better if they feel they've got additional protection, whether that protection physically does anything or not.

This has nothing to do with that. Rules prohibit acts from being political. But boycotts are nothing out of ordinary. Russia boycotted the 2017 ESC when host Ukraine didn't grant visa to their chosen rep because she (Yuliya Samoylova) had visited occupied Crimea. Arab members have boycotted ESC since the 80's because of Israel. Armenia boycotted ESC when it was held in Azerbaijan. And so on. Also, Belarus is currently totally suspended from EBU because of repressing their journalists and therefore isn't in ESC. Finland can boycott ESC, it's her prerogative. Whether EBU agrees to exclude Russia depends presumably on the Executive Board?

Switzerland won't even freeze bank accounts for Russian leaders involved in this invasion. Not surprising, but still wholly pathetic. The proposed measures prevent them from putting more money into their Swiss accounts, but not from spending or using what they currently have. Also apparently 80% of Russian commodities trading goes through Switzerland? https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/switzerland-faces-dilemma-over-russia-sanctions/47376184 I guess taking neutrality seriously has been a thing for 150 years, but still sometimes, god drat.

If Russia starts sieging Kyiv, its unlikely they'll be able to ever take it without making Russa look worse and worse. Regardless: Why would anyone, given what has happened in the past weeks, assume Russia is going to honor some sort of cease fire or any agreement. That's literally why we're in this situation. Russia intends to round people up, they have openly said they have lists. I doubt most people are willing to guess whether or not they are on that list.

I wish Zelensky and his family had moved to Lviv with a good plan for how to evacuate to Poland. It seems like he's a decent leader who has made the best of a horrible situation, and the odds of a Russian puppet government failing seems a lot higher if he's alive and not imprisoned. Also, although I do not want Ukraine to surrender, I'm not going to act like they're quitters or cowards if they do. This is a lopsided war and everything the West is doing will make at best a marginal difference in the short run, as Ukraine undergoes enormous suffering and destruction.
