It’s not practical I know. But if I did spent 6000 bucks I wanna play Star Wars like when I was a kid but with badass props lol

I wonder how restrictive they’ll be on cosplaying/dressing up.

Also, any of the dance stuff, including the lessons and mid-meal dancing, is cringe and the stuff of my nightmares.

Food and some theming looks pretty good though. Still can’t imagine it’s worth anywhere close to $6k.

Yeah, there's not much Disney can practically do about it, but seeing people in everyday Earth street clothes takes you out of the atmosphere a little. And I just know if I ever somehow chanced upon a 80%-off deal and went myself, my group would have some dude in a TRUMP 3028 shirt or something.

No, you see, they're doing SPACE line-dancing.

The decor in the common areas looks great, and the costumes too. From the videos coming out, most of the cast members seem to dive into their roles.

I believe cosplaying is encouraged. I thought I heard that Disney was supplying guests with appropriate costumes to borrow for their stay.

No, probably not.

I get the distinct feeling the Donald Gennaro line about a coupon day from Jurassic Park is going to become the reality when sales drop after the initial rush.

There are enough Star Wars and/or Disney super-fans with too much money to keep it going for a while, but I can't imagine it will be sustainable long-term at those prices.

Then again, maybe? People drop truckloads on Disney Cruises, I guess.

Edit: I just checked out of curiosity. A five-night Caribbean cruise for two aboard the Disney Magic out of New Orleans, in a nice verandah room, costs under $3000.

I watched this entire video and I am very much into this experience. Yes, it's going to get a lot of hate due to the price tag, but puzzles and costumes and immersion are supremely my poo poo and I very much want to experience this. Obviously, the price tag is a huge hurdle but this looks super fun to me. Playing around with CMs in character is a thing that I love about Disney and have been missing since the pandemic so I very much want to get back to that at some point.

Very frequent Disney cruiser here, and yes, we do drop tons of money on it. But $6k could also get my family of three boarded on at least two six or seven-night sailings out of Florida on the Magic or Wonder. The Fantasy... maybe a 7 and a 4 night, OR a back-to-back-to-back sailing on the Dream (11-days).

Just to put this cost into perspective vs. one other option. My estimate here is also based on the standard 10% discount you receive if you book your next cruise while you're on board.

I'm flying up to Vancouver in September to sail on the Wonder to Alaska, and will probably be around $5k, all-in, when it's all said and done.

gently caress this video sold me on it. Because there's an ongoing pandemic I'm not booking anything more than a few weeks out, but if they still have slots available when we go to Florida in May, I'll probably book it.

After watching this whole thing with an open mind, I can honestly say this doesn't sound like my thing. I *love* Star Wars, and dedicate way too much time and energy to it, but such a jam-packed itinerary, puzzles, and escape rooms sounds like it would be too exhausting for me. I'm also a major introvert (in spite of my profession being in marketing/PR) and I know I'd have a hard time interacting with strangers on that level to do stuff.

I won't judge anyone who does elect to fork over that cash, because I do see some value there IF you're a Star Wars fan and happen to enjoy these types of activities. I mean, you literally cannot buy a turnkey experience like that anywhere else, and I think that's pretty cool.

However! I also distinctly remember a ton of poo poo at D23 2017 being announced for Galaxy's Edge, then being cut before it debuted in 2019. Now a bunch of it has come to life, but at the Starcruiser with a massive upcharge to experience it. The Datapad impacting your experience and interactions? Entertainers providing ambiance and immersion? Droids wandering around? Yeah, all that was initially announced as just being part of GE, and I feel like I'm forgetting some things.

I don't like Star Wars, but the puzzles and escape room stuff plus the branching story and access to different stuff based on what you do is exactly the kind of stuff I love.

Hmm. That video does make everything look much more Star Wars than any of the promo stuff did, but a light larp/escape room style experience is something I could have fun with for an afternoon but not multiple days. One of the best parts of a cruise is the fact that you actually go to different places and experience different things and the activities and food in between just fill the time. I don’t think any of this is enough to be the main attraction for me. I’m also a little bitter that a lot of this stuff was/is supposed to be at GE but budget and or covid messed that up.

I would love to know more about the logistics of it all because it seems like a nightmare for cast members to keep moving.

Same! Even though I was on the Wonder in October, it already feels like this one is forever away. Until it's time to book things and pack. I also have to get my daughter a passport, which I guess I better hurry up and do.

I'm actually starting to think this thing might appeal as much or more to people who just love these types of experiences than just Star Wars fans alone. I could be wrong, but it seems like they may have really nailed that part of it.

Sidenote: I even went and pulled up the 2017 Galaxy's Edge + "Star Wars Hotel" announcement from 2017 to check my memory. I was right about massive cuts to GE, but it definitely appears they may have delivered nearly 100% of what was promised for the Starcruiser.

Hah, we’re cruising to Alaska on September 12th as well (but out of Seattle on Royal Caribbean). I’ve been avoiding doing a Disney Cruise so far because I know it’ll spoil me for other cruise lines.

Maybe when the kiddo is older. I’ll probably end up doing a star cruiser stay at some point too.

I'm glad each room comes with a thermal blower and a foaming bubble mask.

F'real though I'm watching the Ordinary Adventures video now. It looks cool, but every thought in my head ends with that spongebob thing that Couldcareless posted above.

Toilet flush test got a "meh".

And they give you a refillable fancy bottle for water, but it says "you can refill in this in the atrium". Motherfuckers for that much money you should be able to call and have a twi'lek come with a fresh bottle of water.

I get it now. They've got dozens of actors and they're feeding them info about each guest they interact with. But just as I paused the video I'm watching Peter is saying "I'm feeling extreme anxiety because there's so much happening and I know I'm missing stuff."

Which is exactly how I would feel.

I always like when kids are present for those sorts of things. It makes it easier to get swept up in stuff and get excited.

Kids at theme parks make it all so much better.

Unless I'm getting very very drunk at Sam's late at night, then I don't need kids around.

What the hell, it looks like the generic sci-fi casino that opened adjacent to the Star Trek ride in Vegas, where they couldn't use Trek trademarks so made something bland that was equal parts of Stars Trek and Wars. The people are trying, but so few places in Star Wars are squeaky clean and Epcot-like (and when they exist they're usually military bases) that it feels only halfway accurate.

Also please stop setting stuff in the period of the sequel trilogy. Regardless of what you may think of the films, Vader was the icon of the Star Wars franchise in 1995 and the prequels only cemented it. Setting all this live-the-movies stuff when he's canonically dead is like having a Disneyland where Mickey is banned from the premises.

They keep making TV shows and more material around the times of the original trilogy, though. I was thinking about how this hotel might make a good Star Wars fanfest if they decide to hold a Weekends style event at a high price, but people who go to that are going to want to see Vader, Boba Fett, Mando, Baby Yoda, Ahsoka, etc.
