I'm glad other feel the same about these "heroic" acts. Friends of mine have been getting pumped over the Snake Island stuff, Ghost of Kyiv, and the guy blowing himself up along with a bridge but I just see it all as needless death and sacrifice.

Frosted Flake has posted a couple of times about how when Konigsberg was besieged during WW2, the German defenders turned a lot of their violence on the city populace in order to keep them from surrendering.

The snake Island surrender really opened my eyes to this.. I just accepted that it was true that all the defenders sacrificed their lives for no reason at all because why would they make something like that up, and when it turned out that they all basically surrendered and it's not even clear if anyone was actually killed or how many.. just goes to show that you can't believe anything at this point.
