Depends where you look. I haven't opened the can of worms so I don't buy direct from Japan using a proxy service which is the smart way to do this. Thus I'm stuck with Ebay and discogs atm where everything's expensive. I though the top dollar Takanaka was the one with the skydiving cover? I did see Goblins cheapish once but eh there's others I'd rather have first.

Pacific Breeze comp is amazing. I guess a lot of it is not really "city pop" in a strict sense - there's like 4 YMO-related tracks on there which don't have anything to do with the genre - but every selection on it is ace. I've heard the second one is more focused but I haven't heard it yet.

Another LitA comp I recommend is "Somewhere Between" which contains a lot of strange, ethereal Japanese synthpop. It's marketed as a halfway point between Pacific Breeze and Kankyo Ongaku, which I guess it kinda is, but it didn't get as popular as either. Still if you were obsessed with them you absolutely should get this one as well. I gotta say whoever is compiling this stuff is doing a hell of a job. Some of these tracks (on all 3 comps) are incredibly obscure. They really know their stuff.

Oh yeah I forgot about that one, it's just a best of comp so I kind of forget about it when it comes to talking about Takanaka. Great cover though, Takanaka covers are hilarious.

This just made me think of all the 90s albums that have voicemail messages as full tracks spread throughout the album. Annoying on CD. Can't imagine listening through them on vinyl.

This voicemail sounds so good with analog hardware. Definitely a white hot stamper. I read they hooked up the answering machine while sourcing audio for maximum fidelity.

I didn't know the Rudimentary Peni packaging was a six-panel fold-out with a real sweet poster on one side:

Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II might be my favorite Earth record. Excellent early morning wake-up album. Comes with a sweet etching on Side D:

In the usual Res news, Secret Records just posted pre-orders for their expanded edition of Refused (which has every version of Santa Dog on it) and a repress of the Molly Harvey compilation Loss of the Lizard Lady. Every once in awhile someone will be stupid enough to ask me where to start with these dudes and this one's pretty great 'cause Molly Harvey was an amazing singer and this comp is broken up into one album of studio recordings, one of live performances.

Uuuuuuuuuuuh I blame pwn for gifting me the TJB CD. Or Burt Bacharach for composing the soundtrack in general. Whatever sounds better.

I kept missing out on Loss of the Lizard Lady so I was on there right when the records went on sale and finally bought the thing. I passed on Santa Dog because I already have the EP and I'm too casual of a Residents fan to want to buy and 2 LP that has like ten different versions of the title track.

It's a Chinese replica of a Herman Miller Eames Lounge chair.

I found it on FB marketplace for $200, you can find them for around $600 new various places online.

Would love an actual HM one but they are about $5000 new and vintage ones are still a few thousand if they aren't trashed.

I have been trolling thrift stores/estate/garage sales my whole life and have never lucked into one.

Though I did find a genuine loaded Aeron B for $15 and 3 Mirra chairs at the restore for $45 each a few weeks back so I can't whine about my luck.

Comic book dividers are cheaper than record dividers. I think I have a bunch laying around somewhere. I’ll mail them to you if you want to cover shipping.

They’re a little bit shorter than record ones, but easy to have stick out appropriately.

Funny story about this:

I ordered this last year thinking about how awesome it would be to have. I did not own a record player at the time, I told myself I would buy one when shipment notices went out for the box set. Today, I picked up my first ever turntable, a Pioneer PL-420. After some fiddling with the speed adjust, I have it playing LPs like a champ. I have to fiddle with it a bit more for 45s but I should be all ready for the box set when it arrives :). I went on my first ever record purchase run, and spent way more than I intended, but I regret nothing.

If you're reading this and you like music at all and are on the fence about getting a record player, do not hesitate and get one as soon as you can.

Disregard the mess in my unfinished basement. Just moved a few months ago!

Hi everyone. Just wanted to ask a follow up question here… I tried to hook this up and noticed the platter wouldn’t turn. Also noticed a slight metallic grinding if I hand turned the platter Decided to replace the belt. Hooray, it spins. Oh no, grinding sound is still there! Also when I press play (33), the tone arm swings over, but doesn’t swing high enough to land on the vinyl. One issue at a time, so here’s a brief vid of the grinding with the platter and plastic cover off. It’s louder with the platter on, which makes sense with more weight being involved.

https://youtube.com/shorts/iffdiCHpf4w?feature=share

I know there are tons of forums out there. Are there any in particular you can recommend for this? I have a place about 45 mins away who can look at the issue, but they have like a 6 month backlog.

Thanks in advance!

E: looks like the part grinding is called a flywheel (duh)

I think for that particular turntable you would be way better off selling the stylus individually and then the rest cheap for parts. Or keep the stylus and look for a cheap Beogram without one. You’re going to be frustrated if you try to fix that. Just my guess.

Does the turntable work otherwise if you manually place the tonearm down? If you can fix the tonearm (check the manual for an adjustment somewhere), and that's the only other issue, you could try this:

https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/b-o-beogram-2400-flywheel-scraping.766619/

Funnily enough, that is the first google result for "turntable flywheel rubbing". Must be common on this model.
