Why do they need parts if they can't fly anywhere? :haw:

Seriously though, China for what they can or other "friendly" countries that still deal with that maniac, but that's pretty much the idea of sanctions in a world of global trade. See how long they can go until they cry uncle or make concessions.

It hurts, but not quite as much as you might think.

Russia already charged an arm and a leg for overflight service, so it was often more economical to route around them.

Extremely hot take: the Ukraine situation was orchestrated by Anchorage Airport to get a bunch of traffic passing through there like during the Cold War.

That makes sense, otherwise nations would be giving up sizable percentages of their air forces.

ALTHOUGH, there might be some wiggle room in those statements.

If they freely give them to Ukraine and Ukraine picks them up, Poland isn't "sending" anything.

I’ve been musing about how much US equipment is over there with the numbers filed off and a new flag hastily painted over. I understand there to be PMCs in play so you could get deniability set up pretty quickly if that was so needed.

Duda : Poland is not sending jets to Ukraine.
there may be a couple of MIGs out back, fully-fueled with the keys in them. Please don't steal them, that would be very naughty.

It depends on how sophisticated these drones are.

If all they can do is draw fire, how hard can it be for Ukrainians to practice discipline and hold fire:

Now, if they’re a threat on their own, as reconnaissance or weapons platforms, then the Ukrainians are in a tougher spot.

It might be difficult to tell them apart from fairly unsophisticated air defense radars. Although the AN-2 is way slower than a Hind, so that should help rule it out.

However, with these resources snooping in on things:

https://twitter.com/GDarkconrad/status/1499294216937160704

It should be a piece of cake for them to see the difference in Hind operations vs drone operations and let the Ukrainians know what's coming where and when. Perhaps they'll use them intermixed or whatever, which means the Hinds will have to go slower and be easier to hit with heatseekers within visual range where it's obviously easy to tell them apart. Probably hard to even get an IR lock on an AN-2.
