I mean, it's an action movie. It's sure as hell not a slow burn TNG where they talk about ethics or whatever, and not even a Start Trek IV or something like that, but it's still pretty decent for space pew pew.

Insurrection's probably the closest they come to that TNG episode feel, lots of talk about ethics. It's just... it's a mediocre TNG episode.

This is kind of what bummed me out the most about Picard. I mean, I get it, if you're making a movie you aren't going to make people sit down for an hour and a half of Picard and Riker ruminating on the legal status of androids. That works in a weekly TV show, but for the big screen you've got to have a bit of spectacle. Even Star Trek IV - which was basically a slightly Star Trek themed road trip buddy comedy - managed a sling shot around the sun and slamming a Birt of Prey into the SF Bay.

But Picard? Man, you've got Mr. Rumination's name right there on the label. Sure you're going to need some action now and again, but a series is the kind of space where you have room to really let him sit around and mope about the Prime Directive for a while. Part of me feels like they could have actually made the arc as written work, if they'd just stretched it out by another 3-4 episodes, given poo poo some time to breathe, and not bounced from one set piece to another as fast as they could. I mean, gently caress, everything from him getting to the cube to crashing that thing into a planet while seven fistfights someone in the wreckage just felt so damned rushed.

I remember watching insurrection. When picard and the villain had their awkward end fight scene in the space catwalk all I could think of was that it looked like an unfinished missing VFX shot.

Might be a few scenes good for memes or jokes but overall the movies just kind of exist.

Honestly the TNG movies are Fine. They're not really good, but they're fun enough to watch and even Nemesis is kind of entertainingly corny bad rather than tedious bad. I'd take another Insurrection over a another S1 of Picard or Disco easily.

Insurrection is the "best" one, best being extremely relative because it rises to the level of extremely boring 2 parter. First Contact introduces the Borg queen, an idea that's stupidity should stand on it's own. Also Picard stops being Picard in this movie. It has some decent Riker and Troi stuff on Earth though. Generations is they changed it and now it's different and I don't like things that are different because the D looks wrong. Also they kill off Kirk in the dumbest way possible. Nemesis would be corny fun except for the scene where Ron Perlman helps Mini Me rape Troi. Just why did they need to include that?

Kael having to manage expectations about his recent hyping up of 'The Biggest News in STO history', which a lot of players have assumed means Patrick Stewart will be doing voiceover work (given all the foreshadowing about wanting someone big to voice the Terran Emperor).

Instead the most likely scenario is that some STO designed ships will appear on Picard, given that some of the ship artists are apparently in the credits.

Assuming its true, they are understandly proud and excited about this - their work being made into official Star Trek canon. But they don't get that its not as big or exciting news to players as it is to them. Honestly, the overwhelming majority of players will be utterly indifferent to it.

You can see a previous example, when some random cosplayer (Becky something) appeared on a TV show in a costume she said was inspired by STO's Iconians (the judges just smiled, clearly having no idea what the heck STO was). Cryptic became massively excited at their work being featured on TV, and tried to convey to players that they should be excited to, but nobody knew who some random cosplayer was, what the show was, or why they should care.

I have a feeling Nemesis is when Patrick Stewart started getting more creative control, ie dune buggy scene. He probably wanted more sex stuff (rough? idk) and the mind rape would be the most "yeah okay Patrick, sure" way of including that to convince him to sign off on taking his p[art without making all the other actors & crew excessively uncomfortable. It's no Irreversible scene that's for sure.

For the next week: Inquiry Class is in the Lobi store temporarily (Did not see that coming) and there's a general 20% off lobi store sale. And the 10th anniversary bundle is back for a while at 65% price, so 19500z. And all of Mudd's Market but the bundles is at 75% off.

On a totally unrelated note, what's the rough fair lobi:EC exchange rate when you buy lobi things on the exchange?

There really isn't one, it varies widely depending on what type of item. Ships (900 lobi) tend to go for 300-400m, while costumes (200-300 lobi) often go for 100-200m, which makes zero sense until you realize that people trying to trade lobi for ec automatically purchase ships to sell, and never think about costumes/pets.

If anyone has the stobux scratch (don't spend real money) I'd grab the 10th while it's cheap-ish. It's a hell of a bundle and will basically make any other sale irrelevant to you unless you want it specifically for space barbie.

My days of being that Zen-rich are a far off memory of back when the dilex was around a hundred.

I've got a decent amount of EC though, I think I'll get the inquiry while it's plentiful on the exchange.

Think it's worth buying a few other inquiry boxes and sitting on them for six months?

Admittedly a big difference is ships actually move on the market, costumes really don't at any appreciable speed. The ones that actually sell are the ones that aren't sitting forever on the board at 100+m.

I think a lot of nerds like bad shows, so probably.

But regardless I do think a lot of STO players do have some investment in some of the STO stuff becoming canon. A lot of fans were happy when the Titan appeared in Lower Decks because it formally canonized the Luna class. And when the Odyssey was used in that Picard comic, there was some excitement there too.

I’d rather Picard just be a good show, but I think the ship has sailed on that.

Also my personal opinion- I think STO’s 2410 Buran class is better looking than the new Stargazer class.

So the first season was rear end from a butt and is probably the worst Star Trek show/movie so far. However, I watched the first ep of s2, and tentatively, it was good. It was actually Star Trek. Now this could all unravel as the season goes on, but as someone who sees the first season as an abomination, this is the start of a good apology.

Also seconding to just buy the 10th bundle. It's drat near every hero ship, you know the thing most fans want to actually fly, a ton of traits, some solid consoles, all the ships are at least "good" and some are top tier, can't really go wrong with it.

On PC that's 500 zen a month indefinitely, so it may pay for itself if you think you'll be around long term enough to actually claim it.

On console I don't think they get the zen stipiden so lol no don't buy it.
