They were thinking:

I think part of the problem Rivian is currently facing with the R1T costs is that they are being compared to current Tesla which is not a particularly fair comparison because Tesla has 12 years of experience under their belt and started out with an easier product (low volume production of expensive halo vehicles). Like even though the Tesla quality meme still circulates a lot, if you pay attention to people actually taking delivery hardly anyone is complaining about them anymore. They are consistently delivering with no faults or issues in increasingly high volumes. Just from the last couple of years I've seen a huge drop in the number of noted issues on Reddit even though the number of deliveries has skyrocketed, I think its starting to be pretty obvious that Tesla is has actually become quite good at high volume manufacturing and that makes life a lot harder for startups like Rivian or Lucid. Basically Rivian trying to start with an affordable high volume EV is starting up in extra hard mode, even Tesla almost went bankrupt from making that leap and only survived by the skin of their teeth mostly because nobody else was even attempting it at the time.

Honestly, the only remaining annoying thing (for me) about vision-only is that it turns on your bright headlights when you use autosteer. You can turn them off right away, but not before blasting every vehicle in line of sight with some excess photons. It’s a road rage generator.

I’ve had 3 or 4 “phantom braking” incidents in the vision-only Tesla, and about 20 in my wife’s Nissan (with radar). The biggest difference is that when the Tesla lets off the accelerator, regen kicks in and it feels like you’ve slammed on the brakes. The Nissan just coasts for a few seconds. Does that mean Tesla should be an industry leader in fixing the drat problem, since their cars make the experience much worse due to other functionality choices? Almost definitely, but here we are.

So there are more former Volt owners here than I expected.

I'm test driving a low-optioned LT, low miles 2019 Volt tomorrow. It's still under the factory B2B warranty for a few more months. If I like it should I buy it or try to find a well optioned Premier with the driver confidence packages? I don't care about the 7.2kw charging. All the Premiers I'm seeing are 17-18 models with much higher miles, if that matters. I'm getting a little paranoid reading about the shift to park issues.

I've got the Premier and it's a nice car (although if you look at my list, take that with a grain of salt).

The shift to park issue is annoying, although it seems to be a warm weather thing and at some point I'll take apart the shifter and try to fix it.

The shift to park thing is not a huge deal at all. It is caused by microswitch in the shifter failing prematurely. I fixed my own for $5 and 30 minutes of my time. Several other GM vehicles that use the same shifter have the same problem.

Repair of this is covered under the B2B warranty for all model years, and also the Voltec warranty for 2016 to 2018 models.

I have to wonder why Tesla isn't using the vision-based autopilot software on radar-equipped cars and just treating the radar data as an extra input. I'd like a camera fallback when the front end is all iced over and blocking the radar.

My car history started at a character-building low point, it only gets better after a four speed manual 2-door station wagon with an engine that runs as smoothly with 1-2-3-4 firing order as 1-3-4-2.

We got the model S because I was tired of playing the stupid game where you keep the car between the lines for hours on end or else your family dies. We got the Model 3 because it was the car we originally wanted but wasn't being made. LEAF was Jr's starter car (now it's my dad's car). Bolt is for college.

I feel like we're doing okay, except that I bought a lot of new cars in order to get safety features. Being in a T-Bone on the highway and nearly killing someone changed my priorities.

Ford said part of the corporate overhaul to create distinct divisions for EVs and gas-engine vehicles will include big changes in the way dealers sell cars. Ford envisions a new process that will result in a non-negotiable price for EVs and rely on customer orders, rather than dealer inventories, said Kumar Galhotra, Ford's president of the Americas and international markets. Ford will work out details with its dealers over the next few months, he said. Dealerships charging above the sticker price has caused tensions between Ford and its dealers in recent months.
