Blurred posted:It seems consistent with a lot of the other noise coming out of Belarus. I've been trying to come up with explanations for why Belarus had a huge mobilization and was obviously supposed to enter Ukraine but hasn't despite the situation getting desperate for Russia. I'm not sure if the story of military commanders refusing to fight is true or would be the entire story if it was. If the entire lynchpin of the plan was that VDV assault on Hostomel resulting in the capture of Kyiv then things might make a little more sense. In that case the timeline would have been 1.) Assault and seize Hostomel 2.) Use airport to land massive army next to Kyiv 3.) Seize Kyiv and overthrow the government the first night 4.) Have New Ukrainian Government order itself to stand down and let Russia take eastern territory from anyone who tried to stop them THEN have the new Ukrainian government request assistance from Belarus or have Belarus claim to be worried about it's own security to send in peacekeeping forces to help pacify any pockets of resistance. Maybe Belarus was even supposed to take a secondary role in the capture of Kyiv once the airport was taken and the Russian forces were in place. A lack of Belarus supplied logistics could be a missing piece to explain why northern Russians are out of gas and starving. Instead Russia failed at Step #1 and started stumbling around confused during a full scale invasion. Repeated assaults on Hostomel (3 or 4 by now) have been destroyed so they never achieved the point of the entire conflict and instead of a support role Belarus would be involved in the front lines of a full scale hot war absorbing Javelins, NLAWs and Drone Strikes to try and stop Russia from losing thousands of troops and vehicles. So it could be that they can't achieve the objectives that were supposed to clear the way for Belarus to act in a different capacity other than front line combat or that Belarus itself really did refuse to enter the war period once they saw how it was going. It could be both. They mobilized as a show of strength to drive around some tanks and do logistics for a Russian occupation on their border but once Day 2 dawned and Russia was getting obliterated having failed in ending the war the first night they could have been hesitant to jump in there. Russia could have been holding them in reserve for a retry of Hostomel which failed multiple more times and then all of the sanctions and bloodshed are making them refuse to come get torn to shreds with Russia. I'm curious what actually is happening. If Russia could just force them to do anything it wanted you would think they'd be throwing their forces at that stupid loving airport in Kyiv to try and end this instead of sitting across the border with a mobilized invasion force sitting idle. All they've really done is launch some missiles early on.

Didn't know they still use D-30s, when I was in the army the staff said those sport/exercise/show model, and the fighting would be done with 2A36 Giatsint-B. Its weird that they have the ammunition all over the place, but one gun has them in a neat pile like they should be. Also really lovely position, they are not expecting any kind of resistance.

mobby_6kl posted:Wait what? Why were they sending cops into a war zone? Yeah, this is another one of those confusing issues with Russia's execution. I'd assume riot cops were always part of the original plan to "peace keep" while the army moves on to different hotspots. but did the bad plan call for riot cops at a pre-determined time or goal and they were just sent through an active warzone with heavy fighting because the plan is ignorant of conditions on the ground? Did a military commander call for the riot cops when they shouldn't have? Was that to try and impress his superiors with progress on a stalled front or was it an actual mistake in judgement? Having an entire convoy of street cops get massacred in a tank battle is strange. a podcast for cats posted:Pacification of civilian protests with the assumption of no armed resistance probably. This would suggest it's just the bad plan throwing police into the first stages of a full scale invasion because they wildly misjudged the conflict. Behind the police would be a convoy of carpenters and furniture movers to setup Putin's summer home in Kyiv. Rectal Death Adept fucked around with this message at 14:31 on Mar 6, 2022 |

The aircraft they'd give Poland wouldn't be new of the factory line, but picked from the massive stock of F-16 being replaced by F-35s, including if any other NATO country have a batch that suits their needs. The airframes they replace with doesn't need to have 30 years of life in them, just enough to work as a stopgap right now.
