how can we not talk about family
when family's all that we got?

Zerilan posted:

Killmonger's opening scene is him asking a museum guide about the origins of African artifacts in an exhibit. He corrects her that some pieces she states to be from a tribe in Benin are actually Wakandan. He states that he's going to rob them, and silences her objects by pointing out that the British stole them to begin with. He brings in some white mercenaries to kill the security and take the vibranium, on his way out he gets distracted by a mask. The merc asks if that one's vibranium too, and he responds with "Nah, I'm just feelin' it" and takes it.

so it could still be a Wakandan artifact

also how did the British get their hands on vibranium didn’t they close their borders in the 16th century

Black Panther is such a perfect MCU movie to look at for this because they did everything they could to make people not root for Killmonger and failed.

It's kind of amazing that the movie and its depiction of Wakanda is basically about asking the question "What would an African nation untouched by white colonialism look like?" and the answer given is "A nation who would ally with the CIA to kill black revolutionaries."

It also opens by depicting non wakanda (i.e real) Africans being slavers

honestly it's still incredible to me that even though the MCU has its own fictional spy agency they went with the freakin CIA for Black Panther. how blatant can they get lol

Especially considering that by Wakandan's own laws, Killmonger rightfully became king, so it's literally them pulling a coup against the legitimate leader.

Also the opening of the movie is literally the nation's ruler secretly committing an extrajudicial murder in another country.

the best part about agent bilbo in Black Panther is that his comics version isn’t even in the CIA, he’s a state department paper pusher or some poo poo. The CIA getting involved is a MCU addition!

what you expect a hyper-advanced country to be able to just fix their own problems without american/white intervention?

Though real talk how much money is the US dumping into those movies because between that and the Iron Man franchise it has to be a fair amount

I think it was even a point in the comic that US chose to send someone like him as a slight against Wakanda.

The whole climax scene doesn't work if the all-female Wakandan honor guard doesn't turn on Killmonger for no reason. They give up on millennia old traditions and obligations because Killmonger is bad? OK.

They're definitely painting themselves into a corner where the same contradiction has to pop up over and over again or else the whole moral structure of the universe falls apart. You end up having to make the heroes wait for some kind of moral threshold to be crossed where the people with legitimate grievances have to be stopped under any circumstance, based purely on principle. But aren't these actors operating on their own principles? The Falcon tv show recognizes that the liberal order undermines itself by empowering state actors to constantly undermine its rationale by violating the humanity of common people, but then doubles down on saying the system is fine if the right people are in charge and they're committed to doing good. But you have a long running contextual canon that establishes this is a recurring problem which can't be resolved with a return to status quo ante.
