Would it be theoretically possible to enforce a no fly zone over Ukraine using only unmanned aircraft over Ukrainian territory?

We wouldn't have had a no fly zone over Iraq if they had nukes

It isn't the pilots in NATO aircraft that would be upsetting to Putain, its the effect of their fire.

Manned or unmanned, if you want a NFZ it means striking at targets within Belarus & Russia to destroy missile & radar sites... that's an escalation to avoid.

Maybe, but even in RSR he wrote about how some idiot packed the *Army* version of the SA-6 and not the Naval one that was hardened against seawater corrosion, so they couldn't set up adequate AD on Iceland when they landed.

And the passage about how their AD personnel were trained maybe once per year on a target flying straight and level while "NATO planes fly through the trees" and how a single Jeep with a TOW takes out the lead tank of a column and disappears before they can even hope to return fire.

Every video I've seen ends up in the same sentence; I've seen conscripts 4mo in who produced better behaviour than these russians. The faulty element here in 2022 isn't the students, it's the teachers.

I don't understand the obsession with the a no fly zone. Not you personally, but in general.

A no fly zone won't do much for Ukraine. Their airspace is still contested, Ukraine keeps shooting down Russian aircraft. Russian rockets/surface to surface missiles/artillery/mortars are doing the bulk of the damage. What Ukraine needs is counter battery abilities, stronger missile defense, and more air defense. Russia has done very little to actually place Ukrainian airspace under their control.

NATO (or EU) fighter jets won't stop the shelling of hospitals.

Haha I definitely know it's a super terrible bad idea I'm just wondering if it's even possible with the number of UAVs and other unmanned platforms at NATO's disposal.

A no fly zone is never going to happen on NATO's part, that's just insane.

Russia's also been pretty open about their intentions once they take over. When you publicly say "We have lists of undesirables and we're going to kill these people." that's not a good situation for anyone to be living in.

Mariupol being cut off with with thousands of civilians on the ground is already just abysmal for civilians. Russia isn’t careful with artillery and bombing anyway, and there’s video available of UKR vehicles and AT teams inside apartment complexes and occupying roofs of apartments and public goods stores.

You could probably redneck strap a stinger to one at this point and still mange to score a few kills, based upon the tactical competence of the Russian airforce that we've seen thus far.

I'm trying so hard to only lurk, but I have to ask if this sort of thing is normal. Like, I get everybody's pushing their own narrative, but abandoning a $20mil missile battery seems to indicate a serious problem in Russia's army. But I write software for a living so I have no idea what's normal.

This thread has been so helpful in my understanding what the hell is going on, thanks for everyone generally saying things informed by actually knowing how military things are done.
