Just having a basic log that says something like "Spoke to X at Y location, and they said "Z"." would be good QoL and not change anything about how you play.

The map allows you to place markers.

What’s darkly funny is that even this wouldn’t help you in any way with so many quests in this game. NPC’s seem to like just bailing.

What's the deal with the various weapon enchantments?

Obvious things like "Dragon Grease" to use on dragons, but does that stack with electricity for like 2-3x damage?

The various blade spells, Black, Blood, Magic, etc. Someone said that Black Flame spells do increased damage to demi-gods, who I assume would have Holy resistance? Otherwise does it hit against flame defense? Are these spells a % increase in damage or more like "all damage now hits as magic/flame/lightning"

Literally a convo log for the quest would be enough. Just the NPC's name, quest name, and the list of things they've said to you. No map clues, no arrows, no hints, nothing.

How's the Starscourge sword work, does str boost all of its damage or just the physical and int is the magic/L2? Because I have the minimum int for it and am still just leaping into big groups of basilisks/bats and nuking them all in one go.

Super weird how the first real site of grace is like "Yo here's an avil- you can level up your weapons at this anvil, and maybe find someone who can do a better job!"
And then 15 minutes later is like "yeah here's the guy. no, there was only that one anvil."

Black Flame does extra damage to demigods, all the god slayer stuff does, so FTH/INT is pretty good at swinging at bosses as far as I know.

What spell is that?

Hell, I'd go even simpler than that and just track everything NPCs say to you and let players go back and reference it by character. If you were feeling spicy, give them a portrait and character description and make the way you reference this an item players have to find.

There is a lot of middle ground between hand holding the player every step of the way and make them figure everything out. Elden Ring has even taken several steps down the player guidance path that other Souls games didn't. This is a pretty small change that would improve the experience of playing without a guide.

My more heretical opinion is that the map needs a few more helpful features like a few more markings on the thematic map to guide players toward significant features. Mines, evergaols, and ruins are all on there, so what's the harm of a couple more points of interest drawn on? And some kind of indicator for the point of grace marker to tell you if you've done the important thing there whether it's defeating the boss or getting the big treasure.

I am sorry. I have no vices for you to exploit.

Is it likely From will ever officially comment on whether some of the "unfinished" sidequests are cut content or if they just haven't been solved yet?

It seems suspicious that, for example, Alexander's innards would make it into the game as a key item that disappears on NG+ if they just cut that quest line.

I would be totally behind them having some kind of dialogue scrollback where you can scroll back through all the things NPCs have said to you. I accidentally skipped a couple of lines of dialogue when I first talked to Ranni in her tower and had no idea what to do when I was done talking to her, so I had to watch the cutscene on YouTube to understand the quest. I agree that having it choose which things are important to record would undermine the quest design, but if it just recorded everything anyone has ever said to you (bonus points if it could be categorized by NPC and highlighted on the map where you were when the dialogue was spoken, but let's get real), that wouldn't really be anything other than a major QoL improvement.

You can't really exclude the third possibility of being bugged at this stage. Nepheli's quest in particular feels a lot to me like there's some trigger that's busted

They're probably never going to comment on it one way or another, or if they do it'll be years from now. It's like the Pendant in Dark Souls. It's mysterious on purpose.

This doesn't help with the specific case that stands out in my mind from my playthrough so far. I finally got to the girl with the wolf and started talking to her and while she's yammering, my phone rings. I spend a few seconds looking for it to see who's calling, and when I look back to the screen, she's disappeared and I've missed most of what she said and have no idea how to continue that quest line and no way to talk to her again. Had to look it up on the wiki and got more info than I wanted in the process. A simple log would've avoided that.

This is the reason I buy at least 1 of everything so I can read descriptions whenever I want, even if it says "this is a rickety shield. It doesn't really help that much. Demi-humans use it because they are small and weak"

Is the presumption that a lot of sidequests are currently broken, missing triggers, not working properly, dead-ending in the wrong spot etc? Or is it another classic Souls game where people are just completing/failing the quest different ways and not realizing it.

For an open world game this seems insanely stable and complete for the most part, certain tech issues notwithstanding.
