I'm hoping for more generic and widespread monuments later on. Like winning a big war pops a journal entry allowing you to build an Arc de Triomphe-alike, or a big naval engagement let's you choose to build your own Nelson's Column.

Yeah that’s what I’d really like, over CK/Rome build-a-monument or EU hard locked ones

Gonna echo some people in the paradox thread that it feels odd for the construction sector to be wholly state owned and operated. I wonder how it'll play into investment pools and the various economic governance models. That said, time to blitz the resources needed to build a gleaming welded and plate glass metropolis in 1850.

Spend years on Vicky 2 where everyone agreed that Lassiez-faire sucked and you want to avoid it whenever possible, then Vicky 3 is announced and people are annoyed that lassiez-faire isn't really a thing any more. I suppose this proves that the people who are unhappy are louder than the people who are satisfied.

Yeah historical accuracy just can’t win over playability and there is no real way to make LF not miserable

I'd imagine that for role playing purposes you could just imagine/abstract it away as "the will of the people" constructing something rather than the state?

I have absolutely no problems with it being abstracted this way for gameplay reasons, I was just saying it felt odd. I'd much rather not be subject to the whims of braindead ai in the running of my economy so this solution works fine for me.

It's pretty much the same problem in every Civ-type game where you're the abstract personification of a nation/empire/peoples and need to have a certain amount of power which would be ahistorical or otherwise unrealistic. The fact that modern AI largely isn't up for it either is icing on the game play cake.

I guess it's fair that people are bringing it up in this context. After all past Victorias have tried to simulate the difference between state control and your ability to focus it, and citizen/corporate control that the state has to encourage, rather than control. But that distinction was terrible for gameplay and previous games in this series were good despite that attempt at simulation, not because of it. Let the spirit-of-the-nation player control things through easy to manipulate and understand systems, and let the details of what's actually going on be abstracted.

Watching all of your infrastructure expansion being spent around Glasgow because the capitalists are trying to make all of their clipper factories profitable would probably get tiresome after a few decades.

Yeah, I agree with that change for all the gameplay reasons given. I do wonder how they'll make various modes of production play differently, though, since I assume they'll still want them to feel very different. I imagine that under full socialism, buildings won't have capitalist or aristocrat workers, and profits will be disbursed to the various remaining employees rather to the owning pops.
