Yeah I know tons of otherwise non-tankie lefts that are all over the place on the spectrum of support for Ukraine/Russia. Mostly it's just "actually both the US and Russia are bad" (ukraine is the US now??) but sometimes it's "Russia actually started way fewer wars than the US in the last decades so actually support for Russia is good because the world is doomed in a unipolar US dominated situation" Or they'll say they support the PEOPLE of Ukraine, but not the horrible nazi government/state of Ukraine. They also buy into the idea that the only reason Ukrainians are fighting against the odds against Russia is that "the west" has a gun to their back forcing them to fight. They absolutely can't fathom people simply fighting to defend their homes because all countries are actually bad and all sides of any war are always equally bad. It’s driven two world wars, and worked as a tool of the ruling class to keep internationalism and class consciousness in check, and as a justification for imperialism. If they are issuing the cert they can get the private key, this is how you do TLS decryption in networks or Man in the Middle attacks on TLS. Even more, because these certs are only 'trusted' by the specific Russian browsers, users on Chrome, Firefox, IE, Edge won't know because they'll just have to assume all certs on .ru sites that expire are valid even if warned they are not unless they use the Russian specific browers. Our patriotic birds will not fail us.

Of course the United States did this, then sent some NATO reps to Ukraine with decade old laptops with NATO stickers on them, while not bothering to cover their tracks prior to Russian tanks arriving. Who exactly are they trying to convince?
