Should I destroy it or keep it alive to farm materials from it? You will eventually gather more skeleton bones than you can possibly use just playing normally. It’s okay to destroy it.

Use a mace/blunt weapon for general purpose, a knife for killing critters that are not threatening to you, and take the time to git gud with the bow but don't rely on it as your sole source of pain delivery. That's basically all you need to know about offensive weaponry in Valheim.

Mace and bow will cover all your bases just fine and you should probably use both. There are some enemies that you really want either one for and they work well against most things that aren't specifically weak to them to boot. I'll throw in a vote for spears also being worth your time as walking around weapons, mostly because they tend to be dirt cheap as far as material cost goes. I think I use them similarly to how some people use knives, but I like them and their ranged attack option. Also I just like spears. I haven't tried out the new claws yet.

I guess thats one way. The whole draw for me with this game is like, industrializing away the inconveniences, eg. creating a terraced tree farm that can produce hundreds of wood from a cascade cause by one tree falling. There's a pretty hard cap on resin production that isnt there for most other stuff imo.

Before that we only had the first kind of raid where its just boars and necks.

Is there a way to aim down with melee? In all the time I've played this I have always found occasions where a log falls and I can't chop it because it's below my melee swing.

No, but if you run into a log you'll "push" it and be able to roll it to a better location. It'll roll over small stuff like saplings and destroy them, but if it runs into another tree it'll get stuck. Which is fine, because then you can hit both the log and the tree with one axe swing usually.

The real pro move is to place a million trees on a cliffside and then just chop the ones at the top.

nothing fancy here, just a maximally dense tree farm at a decent slope. A few trees from the top will knock most of the bottom tier down very quickly

Nice. Thanks for the followup. That setup is about what I was expecting but it's good to see it. I was thinking about it more and I'm going to try that terraced system but built in a ravine. That way the logs hopefully get funneled into each other even more. Just gotta find the right terrain for it.

If I try to put my trees close together it says not enough room to grow. What’s the secret?
|
# ? Mar 14, 2022 23:19 |

There's a minimum distance you need to keep between them. I think it's about 3 meters but I haven't checked super closely. There could also be small rocks or stumps nearby. Basically anything on the ground will keep them from growing.
|
# ? Mar 14, 2022 23:22 |
|
there are mods (Valheim plus for example) that can help you know the distance or prevent planting where the tree won't grow.

I’m sure there’s some kind of range from the standing stones they can be generated from but it can be pretty varied so you can run into times like that. In one world it was me and 2 other people in 3 separate boats in 3 different directions looking for swamps and crypts and it took us a while. We found a few swamps after near an hour but even then the ones we found and spent even more time walking through had 1 or 0 crypts. We eventually looked into that Valheim seed map generator.

Sooooooooo about the seed. When I was starting the game I thought that if I would delete the seed and start the game it would generate a new world as apposed to whatever was in there. What happened instead was my world does not have a seed (or at least does not say anywhere what the seed actually is).

Im hoping they improve weapons by giving them directional aim with the mouse but given its also on steam deck it likely wont change. Some petpeeves of mine: A loaded cart is an absolute nightmare to use on any terrain with a slight slope if going up. Im hoping they improve this in some way. I absofuckinglutely despise the player animations and how the player character has this awful slouch at all times. It looks so bad. I despise the Fuling design. The standard fuling hit like a truck but look small and weak. They need to bulk them up and make them slightly larger. They are also so small in comparison to the Plains' grass and tough to see. Attack animations are all junk. Serpent attack anim stops its movement which means its bite attack will almost always miss a boat that is moving away. This is basically applicable to all mobs and attack animations. A lot of older games like skyrim have this issue as well. It would require some work but i do hope it improves.
