Back when OKCupid did datamining blog posts, they posted a graph of the distribution of self-reported heights for male members. There was a visible hump right at six feet where a ton of 5’10s and 5’11s fudged it

Some people treat shorter guys differently, it's just how it is. If you don't learn to brush off certain comments and such it could easily develop into an insecurity.

100%. I'm used to it and it doesn't cause me issues but I've been short my whole life and it is definitely noticeable that you sometimes get treated differently. I just found an even shorter woman and married her and it's never really bothered me.

6'0 is usually the fixation for guys who care about that kind of thing. I'm 5'9 and 5'10 guys will say to me "well you've got to be taller than 5'9 because I'm 6 foot and we're about the same height".

The closest I get is when I meet another tall person and think "wow I forgot my neck could do that."

I am on the short side (5’6”) and the only time it enters my mind is on this website when people once again bring up the topic of how insecure short guys are.

I'm about 5'8" and always felt... average height? I never thought of my height as notable in either direction, and nobody commented on it in that way - instead it's some of the rest of my family who are notably tall.

When I think of people when they're not around I tend to think of them as taller or shorter than they are based approximately on what I think of them. Often times their perceived height is opposite of real life. Does anyone else do this?

Most people tend to go around being "me-sized". I live in a me-sized apartment with everything based around my height/width, and when I visit someone whose stuff is all too close together and I have to stoop to use a tabletop it feels completely disorienting.

I'm really pleased that I missed whatever brain disease that could have taken root when I stopped growing at 5'11 and 3/4" then. I think it helped that my best friend in elementary school was this kid named Dusty who was super short and I just internalized short dude = cool dude.

Man that kid ruled. Too bad his parents got divorced and he had to move to Florida :rip:

I think of my boss as taller than me even though he's either the same height or maybe half an inch taller. It must be because of his authority over me, I wouldn't say I particularly admire or respect him.

When I was on OKCupid I tried hard to get a date with a lady over 6 ft tall. I’m 5’7”.

I only had one set up a date and she switched herself out for her roommate, who was 5’6”, because she thought we would get along better. We did, but I was trying to climb a mountain, dammit.

Not really.

As a sex worker she must get tired of all the creeps and weirdos she has to deal with on the day to day. Now mentally she counts her father among said creeps and weirdos and is disappointed and upset. She tries to hold him to a higher standard because, you know, Dad, and her frustration that she doesn’t want to think of her dad as a creep gets buried under a swirl of emotion and disappointment.

Dad should have left out the part where he found his daughter's OF, but still been supportive of her. He got too close to the line and fell over.

It's not just "another tall person", it has to be someone significantly taller. I'm 6'4 and worked with someone for a few years who was at least 6'7 or 6'8, maybe more, and it was odd.

AITA for giving non alcoholic beer to my 2 year old daughter?

quote:

I'll try to keep this short. My wife (39F) and I (44M) have been together for 5 years. We have a 2 year old daughter "Dawn" and she is the light of our lives.

Well, Dawn loves the taste of beer. She goes crazy for it, and every time she sees an adult with a beer she tries to get a sip. We live in a heavy drinking culture, so beer is everywhere, from children's parties (for adults) to wakes. So instead of fighting it, I have resorted to buying Dawn a non alcoholic beer so she doesn't make a fuss.

Last saturday we were invited to my best friend's birthday and I took Dawn alone because my wife was working. Fast forward to me getting a non alcoholic beer from the diaper bag and handing it to Dawn when she started reaching for my beer. All hell broke loose amongst the women at the table. They all started ganging up on me and telling me I'm irresponsible and a bad father. Apparently, because I was a heavy drinker in my youth (I don't drink anymore, maybe 4-6 beers a month), I am trying to project that to my daughter. I will make her an alcoholic. She will develop a taste for beer later on in life. Etc. Etc.

They were so vocal that eventually I threw the bottle away and decided not to die on that hill. My wife is on board with me on the non alcoholic beer. I don't think it is such a big deal since it has no alcohol and my daughter likes the taste. But having so many moms berate me made me doubt myself. So, AITA for giving my daughter a non alcoholic beer?
