A quick googling didn't turn up any supporting evidence, so I may have just imagined it.

In reality, it's most often a gradient with both having 40-60 percent support in most or all regions. XKCD had a good visualization of that. SlothfulCobra posted:

It's a Ghost in the Shell map. Which I honestly didn't remember the Russo-America thing, but I was thinking about the series again because I was thinking of the theme songs that are combination of Russian and creatively pronounced English, and my mind's been circling a lot of Russian things I've previously enjoyed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAh2oQQTwtQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1eYYQzuSDA There's not actually an official map because the franchise is run by people who are really into either computers, existentialism, or military hardware instead of political geography, but the story needed some kind of war-torn politically unstable setting to play around with. There's not really many details in the material itself. Something about a third world war devastating the world? But kind of a tame world war compared to most depictions, because otherwise the map would be something like this:

SlothfulCobra posted:It's a Ghost in the Shell map. I just had a conversation about that actually- specifically in the turbonerd context of the soviet anthem dropping the gently caress off the face of paradox game twitch streams along with a lot of wartime songs like Katyusha or Farewell of Slavianka. The first verse in particular, of both versions, suddenly sounds a lot more like Deutschlandlied where you look askance at someone jamming to it. It also feels hypocritical though. Pretty sure most countries have at least a line or two about how they will gently caress you up. France, impure blood, really, are you ok? Russia and Germany are tame by comparison. e: for reference in case anyone is unaware, the current russian anthem is the soviet anthem with new (even more) russian nationalist lyrics, and it was adopted soon after our friend Vlad became president in 2000. Referring to Russia as "great" and "holy" in your opening lines suddenly looks not so good. Edgar Allen Ho fucked around with this message at 09:03 on Mar 16, 2022 |

A number of them are "mobile" on skis and can be towed in order to move them away from threats like ice rifts forming as the ice slowly slides out to sea, but some of them seem to be more sedentary. There's a lot of wikipedia articles to go through if you really want to dig in. https://phys.org/news/2013-02-station-antarctic-ice.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Research_stations_in_Antarctica It probably doesn't help that a lot of antarctican ice doesn't actually have land underneath.
