I think it's useful to have well laid out sources so that when someone asks "Why is Zak S such a shitbag?" you can link to it and go "summary here". The fact that Zak is parading through the comments like an unhinged rant elemental also helps demonstrate the kind of person he is pretty effectively, I think. It's also very important to remember, always, at all times, that Zak S is a serial abuser and a rapist who poo poo his pants in a Chik-fil-A at GenCon.

Again, for the second time, I'm not saying what Skerples is doing is bad here, just that it's in conflict with earlier statements. Which is fine. It's life. And I'm sure even Zak is having a good time 'fighting for his name' or whatever.

Oh yeah, I never saw this posted: https://icv2.com/articles/markets/view/50617/top-5-non-collectible-miniature-lines-fall-2021 So it looks like DnD miniatures are still doing extremely well sales-wise. I wonder how much that will change with the new models coming soon. 40k remains at the top of the heap with Sigmar reaching a close second. Star Wars and Marvel (two of the biggest film franchises in history) lag behind, but it makes me wonder how close these are. 2021 was filled to the brim with whiny noises about how GW was dead/doomed/dying due to them trying to avoid having insta-sellout fomo-gently caress-you boxes. There was a lot of spiteful mocking re: AoS with the Dominion sets being in "selling fast!" mode for four straight months from people that hate GW for good reasons(being a butthole business) and bad reasons (they made some noncommittal and then more committal noises about how much they don't want nazi neckbeards buying their toys from them anymore). Not sure how much the whole "we're all moving over to Battletech, gently caress GW!" sentiment stuck, although my FLGS now actually carries the stuff, and a lot of the stuff, so it might be more than we think but less than what the haters were hoping. All in all, GW is still king in a market that is increasingly hard(it seems) to operate in due to global supply issues.

Still, the post is very funny, Skerples has a taste for wit, he could write the next THGTTG if he wanted to.

On a different forum I made an lazy take about Fighters being bad in OSR D&D and he showed up and turned it into a multi-page argument that included him telling us that they could bring bags of flour onto a battlefield and use them as an improvised smoke grenade. This ability was unique to fighters because -- and I quote -- they had a larger hit die. Parts of that forum still use "bags of flour" to call out arguments that have gone so deep in the weeds they're no longer relevant to anyone.

I think it was recent enough that I had played DCC and brought that up as an example of how easy it is to make them work. But it was never about OSR vs. modern D&D or OSR vs. storygames. It was just a joke I made about an old game having bad design that Zak took as a personal affront to him and everything he stood for.

Gosh, the comments are painful. Zak keeps asking questions that Skerples answers, then Zak asks the same question again asking "why won't you answer a simple question?" E: I'm kind of surprised Legion is at #5 in that sales list, I've felt like that game has lost momentum and isn't played that much, I haven't heard much about it lately until just a few weeks ago a local store is trying to get games run of it. Then again I moved out in the middle of nowhere a few years ago, so I haven't been to game stores with larger populations like my old store. Also, nice to see Nolzur's at #2. So some time ago on these forums people were talking about how MAR Barker, the creator of the Tekumel setting, allegedly wrote a Neo-Nazi novel back in 1991. Well this post hit the OSR subreddit along with a link to a Tekumel fan forum, and it pretty much confirms that Barker is pond scum.

In my experience working for large multinationals it has less to do with geopolitical considerations and more to do with how the company was structured in the 1970s and 1980s. For example a large US-based multinational media company lumped Russia into EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) as they already had numerous offices in Europe and focused around London / Paris / Munich. So the Moscow office was lumped under the European offices. So operations were largely centralized in Western Europe and the RussIan offices were kind of minor appendages of the larger organization. A different, US-based video game publisher lumped all of sales under one organization structure - because they didn’t exist until the 80s, and selling to Russian markets wasn’t a consideration until the late 90s. But due to how the company grew the Russian subsidiary was effectively its own organization, however The office in Kyiv would report into Moscow then into London vs London directly like the offices in say Italy. As I understand it the logic behind that structure was more how localization efforts were undertaken with Russian translations were done in market, and effectively no translation into Ukrainian the time, while German and Italian being done in one office in Central Europe. But my blind spot about Russia is/isn’t European is probably likely due to me spending the last 20 years in corporate businesses in the US and not educating myself about that topic.
