Re: newcomers, I’ve listened to every season and I think it’s way more enjoyable when the movie has gotten their attention. When Nicole is reading plot summary and mispronouncing every name, maybe on purpose as a bit or maybe because she barely paid attention to the previous five movies that included these characters, I just find it to be a real drag. When Lauren said she was on her phone the whole time during Iron Man and Nicole said she hated it, it sure didn’t bode well for this season.

Too bad there isn’t more Fast and Furious for them to watch because that season was fun, and it still would have been fun with Lauren instead of Gabrus. There’s probably another 10 Tyler Perry projects they could switch over to half way through this season.

I was recently trying to remember which podcast from maybe five months ago had Drew Tarver on as a TikTok guy whose videos all involved him getting tricked into drinking gas. It sounds like CBB but I tried that and it wasn’t. Anyone know?

I like Nicole, but Newcomers has made me think that she is just really dumb. Not just stuff like her not being able to read basic words written out for her which I have to assume is at least something of a bit (unless the book she wrote was just completely ghostwritten, which also wouldn't surprise me), but some of the stories she shares. Especially the one where she talked about how she likes to get high and then drive around, and then laughs it off as no big deal when everyone else points out that that's not great.

Actually looking it up now, and her book is apparently just a collection of captioned photos, so....

Hm. I don't think this was it, but one of the Big Grande video series took place at a gas station. Might have been from that?

nah that was Exit 42 and only one ep took place at a gas station (combined with a mcdonalds), he was not a tik tok guy in that

Nicole Byer is great and always extremely entertaining. The new show Grand Crew with her and Carl Tart and Ecco Kellum is the best sitcom I have seen in a while.

Them hating the movies is really fun for me idk why. I love lotr and they hated it so much but I loved that season because they are truly entertaining to listen to especially when they are talking about gandy his beautiful wig.

Chairman Capone
Dec 17, 2008

I'm fine with them hating movies, but the LOTR season was really painful from them scratching the bottom of the barrel for LOTR-related things to cover for 20 episodes.

On the other hand, I could have listened to them cover every single Tyler Perry project.

In an interview she was proud of how much she can shoplift. Stealing is justified if you're poor or truly need it, but it's a game for her and she still does it after becoming rich.

I'm happy for Nicole Beyer because I think she worked hard and deserves her success. Not that it matters wtf I think. But I've been off her brand since that live show where she was begging a guy in the audience to stand up and show his dick. I can't remember what show it was, but it put a bad taste in my mouth. Also, she shouldn't get high and drive around, but I'm just now learning about that.

This part on Yo, Is This Racist? is insane

quote:

Yo, Is This Racist?, a show in which co-hosts Andrew Ti and Tawny Newsome answer listeners’ voicemails and determine whether certain experiences are racist, came up multiple times throughout my reporting as a title the Earwolf team loved but that ended up leaving the network over lack of support. Ti tells me he and Newsome were asked to remove “racist” from the show’s title because it made ads harder to sell. He says the sales team told them some advertisers might think the show is “pro-racism.”
"Hosts said Stitcher’s sales model “actively penalizes any medium or smaller shows”"

“To us, what we heard was that just means you haven’t listened to the content and you’re aren’t making any effort to explain it to advertisers,” he says. A spokesperson for SiriusXM says a name change was never discussed at Stitcher, but the word “racist” was removed from “select sales materials” to prevent the show from being unfairly rejected by marketing filters. The show left the network and is now working with Gumball for ad sales instead.

And of course, we all knew this but it's good to have some confirmation that current management only gives a poo poo about big names:

quote:

Since the acquisition, employees say that’s accelerated. Multiple smaller shows — including Culture Kings, Off Book: The Improvised Musical, and Spanish Aquí — have left or ended their runs, while Earwolf has continued to focus on big names like Seth Rogen, who launched a podcast last October. SiriusXM tells The Verge that Rogen’s show exceeded 3 million downloads across its nine-episode first season and that a second season is in the works.

“It feels closer to Spotify or something else where they’re hit hunting,” says one host. “It doesn’t really feel like it has an identity as a comedy network that supports artists in the same way,” says another.

Yeah, I haven't listened top HDTGM in a while but seeing those episodes made me assume the show was on some sort of indefinite hiatus.

Perhaps related, that article makes it seem like Scheer is still kind of a company man for Earwolf/Sirius XM, while Zouks is pissed off at them.

I haven't listened to HDTGM in a while either but I thought they still put out new eps every other week or so with some reruns on Mondays. Like someone said above they could be for people who don't have access to the archives. I haven't read the article either.

HDTGM has fallen to the wayside for me and I don't listen to as many podcasts these days buy they were the gateway to Earwolf and CBB and i4H etc back in the day. While I hope they do well I don't want them to become a part of some lovely situation. Though, I'm surprised they've continued this long. Also, I want some ice cream.

Yeah, HDTGM was my gateway to the wider Earwolf world as well, and it's still one of the two podcasts I've gone to see live (the Johnny Mnemonic episode). I got into it right around the time of Wolfpop so I have a lot of fondness for the shows from that era. Still miss I Was There Too.

I'm also surprised that HDTGM is still going, especially considering how busy they've all gotten elsewhere and how June really seems to have zoned out of it, but it seems like they're now the biggest Earwolf show and from Scheer's comments in the article it seems like they've been given a lot of slack from the owners as a result. And presumably a big paycheck also.
