Old Noodles, sitting next to me as I type this, is 17. He had a stroke or something when he was 11, and went blind in an hour. It took less than a week for him to figure out how to negotiate the house. Figure he did it by smell (following scent tracks; we had 3-other cats at the time to add to the pheremone trails) as well as feel & sound. You'd never know he was blind - his eyes work but no signal gets through. The only two drawbacks: he can't free-jump up onto other surfaces; he can mount stuff he can reach with his forepaws, and hop his rear end up...so that young cat is inspirational if he/she is able to leap up onto a table. The other is that he packed on a ton of weight because no more zoomies (if he panics, he runs into things); he doesn't eat that much more, but is not burning it off.  The raised, timed feeder was to keep him isolated from the food. In the last year or so, however, his eating has slowed considerably, so out with the table & feeder, and back to endless hopper. I had a dog like this(eyes had to be removed because they were going to blow up due to glaucoma), really freaked out people when they saw it. He was already blind so it wasn’t a big change for him, and he could get around the house just fine with no eyes.

I finally figured out who the mystery burrower in my bushes is thanks to some wildlife cams. https://i.imgur.com/fJTWI3d.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/wjztPgz.mp4 There are actually two of them in there. I wouldn't mind them except you can see my AC unit is what they're crawling under (and the sprinkler system is just behind that). I worry they're going to chew through a line and cause a really expensive headache for me, and/or kill the bushes by loving up the roots. We're attempting to trap them safely, but so far they just ignore the trap loaded with peanut butter and berries and nuts and JUST GO IN AND TAKE THE FOOD ASSHOLES!
