lol is he still considered a NEET if he has a part timer job? or just living with your parents as an adult considered to be NEETs?

I don't think he's still a NEET technically, but the subject probably hits a little too close to home

He's not a NEET, but he is a "freeter", I think? Who were/are also looked down on for being "underemployed slackers" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeter

I can't believe that's the end of enami. I have to know why the author did that. Why did that happen, author?! Why did you write and draw that?! How have I been reading this thread every loving day for YEARS now

I think this answers the "Is he still a NEET if he has a job" complaint. Society is still treating him like one even though he works hard at his part time job.

Mackerel Cornflake posted:Again, I'd like to thank you all for your continued support and patience. When I started translating (nearly a year ago!) I had no clue that I'd be launching the criminal timeline in to a year-long psychic detour with new characters and an unrelated narrative. I had no idea how this divergence would be received, and thankfully it seems most of you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed translating it. I would have given up long ago if not for the amazing community this thread has inspired. Thank you so much for doing this. Seriously!

since you're showing the actual word freeter/freetimer now, I'm curious: did the untranslated title for the "part-timer" arc actually call it the "Freeter" arc?

That's just my theory, but I have no idea if the timelines matchup.

Yes, it was always "freeter": 「 とあるフリーターの日常」 I didn't realize the term had so much connotation to it, so I just went with the more sensible (imo at the time) translation of "part-timer". But it seems it's a kind of a well-defined demographic and important social issue in Japan apparently.

The Daily Life of a Certain NEET started in 2007 while ONE started self-publishing One Punch Man in 2009. So NEET-mangaka would have definitely watched One Punch Man transform from obscure webcomic to cultural behemoth. Also, the Enami subplot started in 2016, right around the time Mob Psycho 100 was being adapted in to an anime. Honestly, I think it fits.
