If I were a member of a group, and one of that group's major beliefs was "We hate you and can't wait for you to be tortured eternally," I would simply choose to not be a member of that group.

Likewise, if I were a member of a group, and one of that group's major beliefs was "We hate your friend and can't wait for your friend to be tortured eternally," I would also choose not to be a member of that group, either.

"It's the left's tolerant position of my behavior that makes the right want to kill and torture me."

Therefore if the left were intolerant of him the right would love him? So the right is, in his opinion, defined by it's rhetoric of opposition and not any basic moral beliefs?

Sounds about like what we understood already.

The actual answer is that Dave Rubin is personally liberal and he's playing a part. He's a failed comedian who accepted a stream from the funnel of money that gets pointed your way if you have some media training and are willing to use it for evil, spreading right-wing propaganda.

His role is the token gay who gives official gay permission to conservatives to be homophobic because they're fighting a war to save civilization from the left which in the end is good for everyone even the gays. For conservatives who need a rationalization, of course. Or even for the ones who don't to use as a glib rhetorical device ("see you libs are the real homophobes because you want to destroy Western civilization which is good for gay people")

I mean yeah the real answer is he is willing to eat a bucket of poo poo on a daily basis for the money. I wish I could be that emotionally hollow and cynical but then if people like Rubin were dime a dozen it wouldn't be a lucrative market.

This is the language of the abused. My mom always blamed herself for my dad hitting her. "He's mad at what I said. He is just angry because I let him down" etc.

"You hate me because my old friends are too nice" is not the defense Dave thinks it is.

The left is whatever these types want it to be.

No, you see, they're the real racists/fascists. They're the ones who won't tolerate my intolerance. In fact, I believe you'll find that the German Nazis were socialist and since Obama and Biden are socialist (cause we said so) they are therefore nazis. No, you're the election fraud!

And how come it's OK for black people to say the n-word? Here, have a picture of a photoshopped cracker with a random white guy. Totally the same.

Removing statues is erasing history. Oh, here's a bill outlawing teachers from teaching about that history since it's too political and all these lefty teachers have an agenda to make America look bad. Why do all liberals hate America so much?

Here's a thing the NYT reported that I actually said and am recorded saying but it's biased fake news, you see, so only trust me. Coming up: "Will Christmas Remain LEGAL?"

Here's a news graphic showing how poor people have microwave ovens that proves poverty is made up. Democrats hate capitalism and want us all on the government dole to control us. You're not poor unless you eat bugs off the sidewalk and Americans are lazy....HEY! Look at this liberal who wants to form a union that insulted hard working Americans over here!

Beats me, his chalkboard episodes are on The Blaze TV, which I'm sure as hell not going to give him money to watch. I just hear him shill them on his radio show. He even talked this one up saying "You may be wondering why I'm doing an episode on BLM in the middle of all this inflation and the war with Ukraine, especially since BLM hasn't been prominent in a while, but trust me they're still working to destroy America and when you watch the episode you'll go 'oh my god it all makes sense now.'"

Beck has really gone back to full on crazytown lately by the way, he's convinced we're headed for complete Mad Max apocalypse, and he even talked the other day about how "It's so weird, for years I was predicting all these things and now they're coming true, I'm no longer trying to find the puzzle pieces of how the downfall of the US will happen, now they're all there and I'm just watching them come together."

It's such a moving target. Since they were surrogate pregnancies the right gets to concern troll how gay people like Rubin are stealing babies from women while pretending they'd have no problem had they been adopted.

And I guarantee you they will appropriate leftist concerns about surrogacy (criticism of capitalism, consent, etc) and pretend like there's people on the left that agree gay people shouldn't get surrogate babies.

Running for office. Last week's QAA podcast brought up the point that all these nutters that have been stewing in right wing propaganda and being radicalized are taking action and getting involved in local politics. IIRC we've discussed Maus getting banned in schools in this thread and Q folks gaining footholds in institutions is a contributing factor to our replay of last century's worst atrocities. The podcast emphasized something along the lines of "at this point making fun of them or pointing out the error of their ways with facts only strengthens their resolve", which plays into the double down mentality of our favorite right wing personalities.

Besides the projection angle I think it checks off a number of boxes for conservatives:

-Pedophilia is considered a universally bad thing so it is an extremely "safe" problem to crusade against. They also do this thing (needs to be a word for it) where if you're not 100% in agreement with them then you must be 100% in support of what they are against.

-They desperately try to conflate outgroups with pedophilia, be it LGBTQ groups, Muslims, leftists, etc. Since pedophilia should be thought of as a universally harmful thing they will try to associate outgroups with that property. This sidesteps the live and let live principles most people would associate with those outgroups otherwise. Muslims aren't bad because of their race or worship, but because they believe in sexually abusing minors. And yes, they will sometimes go after Catholics for this but it usually comes from some protestant fundamentalism.

-Conservatives treat their children as property and treat their kids' abuse with the same disdain as someone ruining their lawn. Their validation of allegations has a lot to do with their attitude towards the perpetrator. The more brown, queer, or leftist they are, the more likely a conservative will believe the abuse happened. Children never get any agency in these situations; only the conservative parent is allowed to speak about it. Acknowledgement of the abuse is only allowed to serve the conservatives agenda.

-Along those lines, speaking out about pedophilia is a safe method of Performative Parenting which makes it look like the conservative is vigilant and protective. You see this a ton with Transphobia; the conservative will immediately veer the conversation about what they would do if it was their daughter in that swim team /bathroom /changing room /dance club/etc. The concept of sexual abuse is kind of just a fig leaf to legitimize the violence they already want to commit anyway.

-Finally, it is just one of many fascist boogeymen in that pedophiles are dangerous because they are a threat to children, yet they are craven and weak and so must be confronted directly. Note that no conservative worries about being overpowered or victimized by a pedophile in the same manner as their children might be.

Who really cares but: I think Dave Rubin was basically inchoate politically other than swimming in liberal waters and taking that as a default, doing kind of celebrity gossip stuff and trying to be funny, and seeing things through his narrow life experience (i.e. 'pro-gay' mostly because he was). And he wasn't getting much of anywhere career-wise / probably started getting frustrated and some negative feedback, which can uh cause a reaction, and the pro-gay thing took a back seat to pro-Israel/Islamaphobia. If you're dumb honestly the easiest talking head gig in the game is "ex liberal who is now conservative" (especially if you are a minority and/or LGBTQ), and since those weak convictions were DISTANT seconds to general ambition it was probably inevitable.

But first, what is a woman? “Tota mulier in utero: she is a womb,” some say. Yet speaking of certain women, the experts proclaim, “They are not women,” even though they have a uterus like the others. Everyone agrees there are females in the human species; today, as in the past, they make up about half of humanity; and yet we are told that “femininity is in jeopardy”; we are urged, “Be women, stay women, become women.” So not every female human being is necessarily a woman; she must take part in this mysterious and endangered reality known as femininity.
