Yes you can. I'm also not sure what Isolation takes from 3 or 4.

I think they meant it starts heavily borrowing from Aliens three-fourths of the way through the game

Oh I see, makes sense now.

However, I think the end of Isolation is more in-line with Alien, because while yes you do have multiple Xenomorphs after you in A:I at the end you're not gunning them down and having a big showdown with the Queen like in Aliens. Which is the defining thing about Aliens. Ripley runs around scared while poo poo hits the fan at the end of Alien, same as A:I (though you have more defensive/offensive options) but in Aliens Ripley's not going to take anyone's poo poo and is determined to gently caress you up if you mess with her or Newt.

Actually you may be onto something here. Or its really lovely editing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMZV08FdYSo

Here is the scene CODChimera was referring to, they take off at the end and run over the zombie idiot.

In the scene instantly before, the bearded guy is on the left, next instant scene the bearded man has disappeared and the right guy is getting into the back of the van and is hit in the back and killed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_nHCNz5Mqk
But bearded man is one who does escort Weyland to the Engineer. The others are Naomi, David, and another lady with the 70s bowl cut teacher hair.

Just got done watching 2010: The year we make contact.

Directed by the Peter Hyams, the same man who directed Outland, this movie fits right into the Alien/Aliens/Outland late 70s/early 80s tactical truckers in space genre.

Also it feels very topical as the plot features American and Russian astronauts having to work together in space while their countries inch towards war on Earth. Great cast, and no one feels like they're too young for their role.

I rewatched that recently and the production design is way closer to Alien than 2001. Movie was much worse than I remembered though. That scene of John Lithgow breathing heavily into a radio for minutes was a such a bizarre choice; I guess they were trying to ape similar stuff from the first movie but it completely failed.

I’ve 2010 has a poo poo-ton of voiceover and ADR, while most of the action/suspense sequences are blatantly cut down from longer sequences and rearranged in editing. There are a ton of continuity errors that result.

For example, I was doing a shot-by-shot analysis a while back, and discovered that the ‘air brake’ sequence was intended to be perfectly symmetrical: the shots where they enter Jupiter’s atmosphere were to be replicated and presented in reverse order, with mirrored compositions, to mimic the journey ‘through’ the center of the planet. In the final version, they just... don’t. And there’s an English computer countdown voice (in the Russian ship!) that doesn’t match the onscreen events.

It’s a clear case of the studio recutting a movie like 2001 into a more typical adventure film (with a runtime of almost-exactly two hours, of course). And it’s also very, very badly in need of a remaster.

That being said, individual scenes are really impressive.

Alien has an extended sequence of actors in suits breathing heavily into the radio.

I thought 2010 was pretty good, a sold B compared to 2001s A+. The effects are really work me, except the end... was there supposed to be a giant CRT in space spelling out the message to Earth?

Also, it felt like the Russian woman who clung to Roy Scheider should have had a bigger part? It felt very random and I think she disappears by the end of the film?

I should probably rewatch it, but I really liked '2010', especially the ending. It probably helps that I really like the book 2010 (though 2001 is arguably one of my favorite books of all time).

There's also a 2061 book, it's neat and I wouldn't mind seeing it adapted into a movie, about the closest we've gotten so far is 'Europa Report'.

New Alien 5 Movie In Development With Ridley Scott To Produce

quote:

A new Alien 5 film is in development at 20th Century Studios with writer/director Fede Álvarez at the helm and Ridley Scott on board as producer.

Now it's been announced that director Fede Álvarez (Don't Breathe, Evil Dead) will write and direct a new Alien 5 film (via THR), which will not be part of the regular continuity and will feature new characters. Álvarez is a huge fan of the franchise and pitched an idea to Scott years ago, which is now greenlit to move forward. 20th Century Studios' Steve Asbell said that the green light came “purely off the strength of Fede’s pitch," and that "It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.” The film will debut on Hulu and is said to be "unconnected to the previous movies."

I'm not sure if this is a hot take or anything but I am currently watching Alien 3 and I think it's much more in keeping in terms of general mood and feel with the three Scott Alien films than Aliens is. Prometheus, Covenant, Alien 1979 and Alien 3 paint a picture of a cruel universe fundamentally hostile to humans. Not just in terms of the alien, the Engineers, the goo, and all that. But human society and endeavour as presented in all of them just seems bleak, friendless and pointlessly cruel.

I know Alien 3 has been somewhat reclaimed in recent years but I was really struck on this rewatch with how the general feel of it seems so appropriate. I can well imagine the Weyland corporation that sent the Nostromo into space also establishing the Fury colony. I can't, on the other hand, imagine them employing marines with idiosyncratically graffitied helmets.

I love Aliens but it's just not quite the same universe as the others (and the less said about Resurrections the better). There would never be jaunty military drum music in the world Alien 1979 happens in. There are no wise cracking badass marines. I think even the profit motive is overplayed to be honest. The power structures in the Scott films and Alien 3 don't seem especially concerned about money so much as domination and power. Weyland isn't searching for the engineers for cash. Ash and David are cruel and sadistic to humans because they seem to feel humans deserve it, not because they stand to really gain anything themselves.

Ash and David are when human creations who don't care anything about money meet a Xeno. Aliens and to a dumber lesser degree Resurrection are about when humans encounter them. Prometheus is both since Weyland being the richest person in the world just wants to maintain being around forever while David just wants to experiment.

Essentially, the distinction is the part the androids play in each movie. 3 is in a weird boat because the Company plays the role of one when the movie lacks them otherwise.
