Just an idea from some dope on the internet, but maybe get some critter repellant granules (basically super-potent peppercorns, not poison but unpleasant) and put some under the AC unit to discourage the critters from going under there.

I could have sworn that I saw it in this thread recently, but going back a good number of pages I'm not seeing a video of ~20 cats in an apartment absolutely transfixed on a bird outside on a balcony. Maybe I saw it on Reddit or something? Can anyone help me out with that? I have cat friends who need to see it.

So I fished it out, because what an artful way to die, and spent two hours swearing petroleum jelly (I had no cooking oil on hand, so grabbed another pull based product to loosen up the glue) all over the limbs stuck to the glue. It is good I have puncture resistant gloves, since the rat was terrified, tired, and hungry and it spent most of the time latched onto my thumb. I gave out some quiche the next day, while I was waiting for it to get dark outside to release it. It was very confused when I opened the door to the live trap and dumped it out.
