It's extremely obvious that Jurati is going to end up as the new Borg Queen but it's also extremely doubtful that that is the takeaway/lesson Q is trying to teach here

I really don't think this is a typical Q lesson He seemed rattled and maybe desperate, perhaps to save himself using Picard somehow If he was scared, really scared, I can see him going to Picard

Ugh goddamn tried to pick up Discovery from where I left off and I'm just staring at these ridiculous gouts of flame How am I supposed to take this space show seriously when there's a pair of gas torches fit for a Rainforest Cafe in the back of the bridge shots!? And Book's got the same drat flame gouts.

I can absolutely see the writers going with "Picard only decides not to blow up the ship because he realizes the new Queen is Agnes." At some point he's going to tell her the "look up" story, and she's going to end up fully assimilated in the past, and when Q snaps them back to the future Picard is going to realize it's her when she says the line gently caress

One of the problems of nutrek is that instead of one A plot and one B plot covering an hour, they have to have three A plots and two B plots in 9 hours. First, that means they are stretched thin since the ideas would be fine for an hour but feel feel dire when extended to at least twice that long. Second, because of serialization, they have to weave together. So, it leads to mysteries within mysteries within mysteries.

The in-universe explanation for exploding consoles has always been the EPS conduits behind the panels that run through the entire ship and supply the vast amounts of power the ship's systems need to operate. It doesn't make sense for lots of reasons but it's been there for decades

apropos of nothing here's a good scene from another time travel story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gr82dZpCr48 for Picard 2x04 Guinan's doesn't recognize Picard, so this means that temporal mechanics wise Time's Arrow never happened. But the Mohawk Punk seemed like he was affected by Spock/Kirk on the bus 3 decades ago. Time travel inconsistency? In Star Trek?? I think maybe Q is going insane or losing his powers and that the alternate reality was caused by him trying to save Picard but it caused an unintentional change in the timeline.

xerxus posted:Guinan's doesn't recognize Picard, so this means that temporal mechanics wise Time's Arrow never happened. That was weird, but it could just be that the Guinan in this episode is literally younger than Time’s Arrow Guinan and at some point this Guinan will travel back in time to the 19th century where she’ll meet Picard again. - I liked the punk cameo - Rios continues to be charming as hell - Those cops had giant bodycams and full view of Seven/Raffi transporting, I’m gonna make a wild guess that that plus Rios explaining who he actually was to the ICE fascist will result in even more timeline alterations that they have to fix later. They’re really lampshading it with all the butterfly references. - Q is definitely losing it - Having the Watcher be a human Laris (no pointy ears!) feels like a weird swerve that’ll take a legitimately clever explanation to feel earned - Agnes immediately lying to the Borg Queen and giving her the cold shoulder was good Episode good, if a bit short.

xerxus posted:for Picard 2x04 My guess would be that Guinan didn't recognize Picard by face since it's been a hundred years since they met, but as soon as he said his name she made the connection. It's been a long time since I watched Time's Arrow, though. Unrelatedly, what was Q trying to do to that woman at the end? He seemed to be narrating her inner doubts, but what was supposed to be the result of the snap? Was he being a huge bully and trying to yank those doubts to the surface? I very much want to know what's wrong with him.

Yeah, the events of the episode "Time's Arrow" aren't referenced at all, which surprised me, as chronologically it's already happened from both Guinan and Jean-Luc's perspective. The casting of a young Guinan was well done, I quite like this actress' take on the character. Loved all the bits of continuity, though I saw the bus/punker cameo gag coming a mile away. Also liked the references to Jackson Roykirk and the book by Torme from TNG. And are these watchers affiliated with Gary Steven's bosses?
