I was actually going to make a :smuggo: "I've never even *been* under a thatched roof" point about how thatched roofs have been banned in civilisation since 1666, then remembered that I have actually been under the only thatched roof in London (Shakespeare's Globe - and yes, they had to go through a *lot* of poo poo to get it built). The tour didn't mention anything about squirrels though, and the single thing I do know about squirrels is the ones in Green Park once mugged the CFO of a company I was working for.

I spent a year of my childhood living under a thatched roof and within wattle and daub walls (a converted Tudor barn in a village in Herefordshire). Mum used to get very annoyed when I'd feed the mice who lived in the walls.

Don't miss using the outhouse either.

I don't know why people are getting at Sunak for this, of all things. We have different breads for different people in my house, too, because I'm the only one who isn't gluten intolerant.

Apropos of nothing, why did nobody tell me about The Repair Shop (the BBC show, not an actual place)? I've been binging it while on my little covid holiday and it's like it's been made specifically for me. The setup is pretty simple, people bring in old stuff that's broken, a team of specialists fix it.

What makes it amazing is that it's almost all just normal consumer goods - a 70s Dalek toy, a clockwork musical box Menorah, a mass-market Chesterfield armchair from the 80s - or even just homemade stuff, that has massive sentimental value for the people involved. They give you a couple of minutes of the history of the thing (both commercial and personal) then craftspeople doing their thing, explaining what they're doing and the mechanics of the object, then of course the big emotional reveal of the repaired object. It's all also beautifully shot and edited, just perfect, gentle television that tickles both the nerd and the schmaltz centres of my brain. I'm starting to think about the Beeb the way libs do just because of this one show.

I think they just canned it :(

Anyone got a good recommendation for air fryers? Or perhaps a warning to stay away from them? They seem like useful, energy saving gadgets now that cooking fishcakes is gonna cost me my life savings. If I had any

We've got an Instant Pot Duo Crisp / Air Fryer and it's pretty great. Use it for all sorts, from beige freezer food (quicker and cheaper than an oven) to soups and one-pot pasta bakes.

The best air fryer is a toaster oven.

Instant pots also good.

Argh I wish I'd known that they did a hybrid when I got an instant pot a couple of years ago.

I mean, not really? He's still on his bullshit, he's doubling down more than ever on defending Rowling and being a lovely transphobe.

If he was crying about his terrible mistake then maybe, but as it stands this is him being upset that his actions have had consequences on his career and marriage, the man has zero self awareness or remorse over the nightmarish effect he's had on trans kids futures.

0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.
Could we have it confirmed by the treasury whether he paid using contactless, if that's the level of investigation we're at?

He has lost out massively. He's driven his family, his coworkers and basically everyone in his life away from him and it's had serious emotional and financial impact on him. And the people who radicalised him into it, yer mumsnet and guardian transphobes, have all abandoned him because he's too much of a liability. This is what happens when you deplatform a true believer. He's going to keep doubling down until he does something he can't come back from.

I'm still of the firm belief Boris will stay in until late 23, get ousted, then the new PM will run in 2024 on a platform of "only we can fix the mistakes of Boris Johnson."

Anyone who replaces him now has two more years of Brexit, war and global inflation to ruin their name (Plus whatever other stuff they do by dint of just being a soulless Tory.) They would ahve to bank on things turning around fast to not be tarred by it.
