Still pretty miffed about no rescheduling for the 3 nights in Vancouver on the 2020 tour that was canceled after the pandemic hit. I was definitely going to one, and was debating two. Now since I haven't spent any money going anywhere for the past two years, I could afford all 3 now, but no word on them coming back at all. I also had tickets for Dead Can Dance w/Agnes Obel and they kept postponing, then finally canned the tour altogether. At least I'm seeing Gary Numan here next month, barring any massive new spikes.

Does anyone know if there are still sites out there hosting NIN stems (multitracks) from previous remix competitions? I'm particularly interested in some tracks from Year Zero, I heard the entire album was released in stems format but every link I've tried is long-dead. Thanks!

This isn't much immediate help, but the full multitracks were included on a bonus DVD with the YZ remix album, so I'm sure someone has them. They didn't just disappear into the internet or Trent's Tapeworm Vault. (I can dig them up myself if I have to, though I'm still hoping someone else finds them first.)

Wow, all these years later and I never realized until I heard the vocal track in isolation that there's not an extra syllable or word after "take me with you". Even listening to the full track I can still hear something there, but it seems like it's just the reverb on Trent's exhale. ixi's definitely right about how he plays with unresolved melodies, because my brain filled in an entire other note in that part.

sticklefifer posted:ixi's definitely right about how he plays with unresolved melodies, because my brain filled in an entire other note in that part. i still need to catch up on ixi, but i know there were a couple times where she missed spots of ambiguity like that that would be really cool to talk about (albeit difficult if you've only ever heard it your one way) so i'm glad she's starting to dig into that! i didn't actually realize how much it happened in reznor's music until her march of the pigs video, where i thought she transcribed a vocal line in the verse wrong. turns out he just yells the last word of the line in an atonal way that fits perfectly into either interpretation, and once i heard that one i started hearing them all over the place. like an indistrial laurel/yanny factory

He sounds like he's singing in the style of Maynard James Keenan which is really unexpected but works. I never thought I'd hear Trent sing like that and I don't mean that he sounds like Maynard because his voice is very different, but if you handed the instrumental version of that track to Maynard I would expect identical vocals, just with his own voice obviously. Makes me really curious about new NIN material, whenever we end up getting some. Speaking of vocalists, we know Trent has received praise from some of the biggest and best and I was listening to the Get Down Make Love cover earlier and wondered if Freddie Mercury heard it and/or commented on it before his passing? The Sin single with that b-side released in October of 1990 and Mercury passed away in November of 1991. I wonder if he liked Sin and Trent's (and Al's, I guess?) take on Get Down Make Love?
